Sarah Palin & Discovery: Vote for the best haiku!

We thought Discovery Communications' decision to give Sarah Palin a "nature" documentary series about the state of Alaska with a paycheck of a cool $1 million per episode deserved a tongue-lashing.

So we invited you to join us in delivering Discovery an unconventional response. And we've received an overwhelming response, with more than 1,600 haiku submitted by you in just the last week!

Now, we need you to vote for the top haiku here: http://action.foe.org/t/8815/questionnaire.jsp?questionnaire_KEY=1017

Friends of the Earth staff have culled through thousands of your haiku to bring you the best of the best. These haiku help show how ridiculous the notion of a Palin "nature" show is.

Chief Operating Officer of Discovery Communications Peter Liguori recently said that Discovery "is so excited to help Sarah Palin ... reveal Alaska's powerful beauty as it has never been filmed, and as told by one of the state's proudest daughters."

We don't think Palin's support of the barbaric practice of aerial wolf hunting or her outright denial of human contributions to global warming makes her an expert on the natural world.

Click here to see the top entries and vote for the best haiku calling out Discovery for amplifying Sarah Palin's anti-environment voice.

Palin has raked in more than $12 million dollars since resigning as governor of Alaska last July.1 As a company that has garnered much critical acclaim and popularity with families across the world through its evidence-based programming, Discovery shouldn't be padding her already overstuffed pockets.

Show Discovery you won't stand for its "Snake Oil Science" soapbox. Vote here.

Once the votes are in, we'll announce the results and the winner will receive a special prize. We'll also deliver all of the haiku entries, with the winning one on top, to Discovery's headquarters.

See the top ten haiku and vote today.

Sincerely,

Nick Berning
