Tea Party Movement Mirrors a Deeply Divided America
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 11:20 PM by proud patriot
(edited for copyright purposes-proud patriot Moderator Democratic Underground)

"US President Barack Obama came to power promising to unite the nation. Now he has divided it even more than his predecessor George W. Bush. The burgeoning conservative Tea Party movement is calling for Obama to be removed from office.

The auditorium in Tulsa, Oklahoma is silent for a moment, as the Walkers, a happy couple in their mid-50s, walk onto the stage. They manage an electrical store in the area, and they say that after being married for decades, they still love each other just as much as they did on the first day. They are here to demonstrate that love to the audience — with a passionate kiss.

It’s meant to be an homage to the old, forgotten America, the land of high-school sweethearts and beauty queens, where honesty, decency and loyalty still meant something. A land where the promise of the American dream — that anyone could make it to the top — still reigned supreme. There are 5,000 people — ordinary people — in the audience, including Democrats, Republicans and independents.

The Walkers are seated on two folding chairs, placed a respectable distance apart — the old America was a chaste place, after all. They kiss a few times to the sound of country music. Then, suddenly, it gets very loud in the room.

Radio and TV talk-show host Glenn Beck is standing on the stage. He has just arrived from the Doom Room, which is what he calls the studio where he records his broadcasts. From there, he spreads a message of fear and dread of a new America, a place that no longer has anything in common with the land that the Walkers know and love. It is a country of poverty, deprivation and an omnipotent government, a cross between the Soviet Union and Hitler’s Nazi Germany."

1. Beck would not need people like the Walkers
if he weren't trying to disprove opposing intent.

9. I wonder how sympathic the media would have been if in 2000

Democrats had started a tea party movement to rave on about how the SCOTUS stole the election from Al Gore and installed a near dictator into power who lost not only the electoral vote, but the popular vote as well. A movement that would use the SCOTUS's infringement on state rights as a reason to call for seceding and to launch angry protests complete with guns, storm congress unimpeded while in session and call Bush names. Would the media have respected these people as a "real grassroots movements of Americans" just exercising their freedom of speech?

HELL NO.

They would have called us sore losers and fringe groups. They would have tsk'd tsk'd us over the "deserved" arrests and imprisonments that would have surely taken place. They would have bemoaned the fact that we had not moved on. So why are they glorifying and propping up this group of sore losers? Why are they pretending that this is not what they are all about? Especially since the Tea Party was formed before Obama had taken any legislative actions.

After all, these folks have absolutely no justification whatsoever to claim that this is not a duly elected president, but we did. There is really something quite sick about the media's obsession and elevation of these angry hateful clowns. They are sore losers and nothing more.

EDIT to add: This was meant as a comment to the OP. My computer is acting up.

2. It is divided by those who lost the 2008 presidential election
and have yet to get over it.

As for the over amount of ink on Teabaggers, what the point exactly,
beyond giving them a bigger profile then they deserve?

My question to you specifically; why did you post this? What was your aim,
considering the copious littering of Teabagger articles everywhere on
DU? What is so special about this piece in your opinion
that made it worthy to post at a Democratic supporting site?

3. We that voted for Obama are not divided! The losers are divided
and have chosen not participate in this great democracy of ours.

These articles never really detail why the so called "divide" exists do they.

This article is bullshit.

<snip>
Obama embodies everything the people in the Tulsa convention center hate: power, superiority, intelligence and worldliness.
<snip>

I am going to translate this for everyone so we are clear what they are saying, "Obama is a black uppity ni%%&r that does not know his place, just because he got his education (an education which was a free handout), was successful during his education (he jive and shucked favor with his professors and did not earn anything), and just because he got elected president of the US (only because miniorities voted in huge numbers)......

we can go on the divide is nothing more and nothing less - it's about "race".

While the previous president was in office do any of you recall anyone talking about sedition or taking out politicians etc? Did you hear the right wing say a word about being spied on by the * regime and tons of money going towards the war machine while cutting money for veterans? Why is that?

4. Because the minority opinion (no more than 29%) has always been SOOOOOO important.
I guess somebody else will cover the marches of 150K plus, so why should FAUX, their clone. CNN or M$NBC?

Seriously, I would call that "political affirmative action".

5. Republicans, the media and talk radio all created this division.
They demanded it, enabled it, and need it.

The great irony of course is that it is they who are not needed.

8. Tea baggers mirror the deep depravity, ignorance, and treason of hate radio
this will end when someone starts to fight back. Until then, it will get worse.
