Has the Democratic Party changed? And how??
Is it still the "Party of the People"? Or has it become a more "corporate" Party?

Is it still the Party that support labor unions and organizing workers?

Is it still the Party of "progressive" taxation?

Is it the Party of Wall Street or Main Street?

Is it the Party of military interventionism or has it always been?

Is it fair to ask these questions?

1. Every question you have posed is completely fair...
...which reinforces the need for websites like Democratic Underground.

2. It's 100% fair

And I think the answer is:

We have a base that still believes those thing you listed, but our leaders have moved away from them because they perceived that they couldn't win elections on them (or just thought they couldn't.) So we now have a split party with the base believing one set of values and the leadership operating by another set.

How do we resolve that conflict?

3. By electing candidates more in line with the base?
In their way, the primary elections are more important than the general elections as far as Democrats are concerned.

6. Therein lies the rub
how do you make sure that the person you are voting for in the primary isn't a DLC hand-picked choice but someone from within the community whom people know and respect?

4. My concern is:
Will we turn around and one day find that our Party is the Party of Wall Street and Big Business?

5. Has the Democratic Party changed?
Does the Pope protect pedophiles?

The Democratic Party has been taken over by corporate interests. In many ways, I see little tangible difference between today's Democratic Party, and the GOP. Both parties serve the same master. We can all thank the DLC, ooops I almost forgot that they prefer the term "New Dems" now, for that.
