WH "Scorched Earth" Response To Media: CBS "Enablers Of People Posting Lies"!!!

White House Goes To Mat For Kagan

......................

CBS initially refused to pull the piece, which prompted a scorched earth response from the White House that Howard Kurtz wrote up this morning:

*******************************

*****CBS initially refused to pull the posting, prompting Anita Dunn, a former White House communications director who is working with the administration on the high court vacancy, to say: “The fact that they’ve chosen to become enablers of people posting lies on their site tells us where the journalistic standards of CBS are in 2010.”

She said the network was giving a platform to a blogger “with a history of plagiarism” who was “applying old stereotypes to single women with successful careers.”…

A White House spokesman, Ben LaBolt, said he complained to CBS because the column “made false charges.”

***************************************

CBS unquestionably deserved to take a hit for this. But what’s more interesting than CBS’s role is the White House’s aggressive response. People who follow the ins and outs of nomination battles closely are interpreting it as a sign that Kagan has a very good shot at being picked. As one of these people put it to me this morning, this is the most hard-hitting pushback by the White House to misinformation being spread about any nominee.

A White House official told Kurtz that Kagan is not a lesbian. That won’t matter, of course; the whisper campaign from the right is likely to continue. But the White House has now signaled that they’re prepared to go to war against it.

1. I am sure that Kagen is no more a Lesiban than Secretary of State Rice was.
And it would make not difference if they were.

It is a pity that CBS = Lie.

The Post's Web site briefly hired Domenech as a conservative blogger in 2006. He resigned three days after his debut after a flurry of plagiarism allegations that were trumpeted by liberal Web sites. The sites found signs of plagiarism in a movie review he wrote for National Review Online and, earlier, in his writing for the College of William & Mary's student newspaper.

...Domenech said he was merely repeating a rumor...(he) later...added an update to the post: "I have to correct my text here to say that Kagan is apparently still closeted -- odd, because her female partner is rather well known in Harvard circles."

4. Are the allegations true that Domenech has stopped stalking underage children?

Same BS tactics. It's always easier when you have no source and don't have to back up your claims.

Rumors invariably raise a difficult journalistic choice: whether to report on them and give them credence, or withhold them and fail to acknowledge what insiders are discussing.

There are only two things a proper journalist should do with a rumor: either confirm or deny it. Merely mentioning that the rumor exists, or that it's being "discussed," makes you an accessory after the fact.

Who the hell wrote this crap? Howard Kurtz...that explains it...
