The media is predicting a huge GOP landslide this fall. |
|
Hoo boy. I'm reading more and more articles about how the tide is changing and Republicans are becoming giddy over their fall opportunities.
According to the news, polls show a huge swing towards the right.
If the media is correct we are in for at least two years of absolute, rock solid, dead stagnation in government with Obama getting the blame.
And the shrill, illogical, paranoid screaming voices will feel emboldened to screech even louder.
I hope they are wrong (of course), but I am seeing this news popping up just about everywhere I look nowadays.

5. Yes. The longer Democrats have the majority, the more chance some of them will grow a pair |
|
and stand up to the corporate powers. We need to get our financial reform bills passed before they are further watered down and start in on workers' rights (EFCA) in time to use the populist message (the real one) for the midterms.

49. And it IS going to happen. Because Democrats are WIMPS who don't fight. |
|
If the GOP were in our shoes, they would be smacking the hell out of the other side and we don't. They would also be going after the Supreme Court for "legislating from the bench" and being "activist." They would be moving to impeach Supreme Court justices just like they successfully impeached Clinton. It didn't matter that they couldn't convict. They would impeach anyway. We don't because we are WIMPS. We always bring a knife to a gun fight. We don't fight, we don't answer them, we don't hit back.

There are certain "red" places that went "blue" recently and the GOP suspects they can "get them back". Mayb they can, maybe not. If they get a few, this will be their "big win". I'm dubious that there will be any kind of 1994 style shift here. We'll lose some seats probably. Mostly just a numbers game now.

said right before the health care vote that their projections showed us losing 25 seats, not enough to flip the balance of power. And that was before we regained the momentum.
We will lose seats, but not enough to give the Republicans control again.

14. I agree - the GOP has a problem |
|
1. Teabaggers - they want small govt. guns. lower taxes.. The GOP gave us the PATRIOT ACT, Bank Bailouts, and two loser wars. Plus a huge deficit. The poor GOP can't go to the teabaggers and say "Vote for us! Under Raygun, Bush, and Bush we lowered taxes, lowered the deficit, and cut big government." their record is awful.
The teabaggers are pissed at the corporatism. And they are pissed at Obama. But the GOP don't seem to have an answer to corporatism.

15. Democrats are almost bound to lose a few House seats because they picked up so many in 2006 and 2008 |
|
Some of those seats are traditional Republican seats which will revert back. However my feeling is that the loss of both House and Senate seats will be minimal and possibly Democrats may break even or better in the Senate.

that they believe the GOP is in too much of a shambles to make the kinds of gains the media are talking about. They're not worried, he says. They think the GOP is taking the wrong tack on financial reform and it's going to kill them with middle class voters.
I would love to believe my friend, but I worry that the Obama people are not the most reliable readers of the political mood, judging from the health care reform debacle--although they did finally win that one, from their and the Republicans' perspectives.

Watch the Hispanics in the Southwest, for example. The anti-immigrant shit may come back and bite the Republican Party and the douchebaggers big time. McCain is moving to the right on immigration to counter Hayworth. If Hayworth wins the Hispanics will flood the polls and boost the Democratic candidate. If McCain pulls it out he will have pissed off a lot of Hispanic voters and they may exact revenge on him at the polls. Nevada and is another place where the Hispanic vote could help Democrats.

|
would not surprise me if that is exactly what happens, and it doesn't matter who votes for whom because it's all secretly counted proprietary software often routed through neocon "transfer points" and altered there, like Smartech.
If anyone thinks about blabbing, well, they can just remember the example of Mike Connell, eh?
I still would advocate voting, if only to participate in Reality TV and also just in case I am wrong about this.

But the 'Baggers will present the problem of a divided base, the Michael Steele mess is totally screwing up their fundraising, and if they filibuster the financial reform legislation, well...it'll be a trainwreck.
The Dems will lose seats, to be sure; something like 45 House districts elected Dems in 2008, but the majority of voters there also voted for McCain. The math isn't favorable, but I hardly expect to see a bloodbath.

30. Not a link, a prediction...Last time Republicans took over under a Democratic President... |
|
We went to 24/7 investigations until the Bill Clinton caught his dick in his zipper, and then they impeached him.
That was the ultimate win/win situation for the media. Constant drama, high ratings. It played to the Republican's tactic of politics as war.
I predict that if Republicans win the House they will begin constant investigations to find something to impeach Obama for. It won't matter what it is. Hell, they even know that they can not get the Senate to uphold the Impeachment. But it is political theater and political war combined. That is what they do.

48. To Republicans, impeachment has nothing to do with high crimes and misdemeanors. |
|
I lived through the Clinton years. Republicans investigated him 24/7, until they found something. They made up a lot of shit on the way, but Clinton helped them in the end by doing something they all did. In the house all they need is a simple majority. These people will investigate Obama until they find something and then vote for impeachment.
It will probably begin with his birth certificate. They will do it, not because they believe it, but because a lot of their constituents have concerns and they want to set those concerns at ease. If they don't find something, the right wing spin machine will make stuff up.
This is the way they do business.
It won't matter if an impeachment is not approved by the Senate. The point is to destroy a political enemy. For Republicans, politics is war.

They keep repeating that using the mantra that if they repeat it enough times it will happen.
If people think government is gridlocked now, just wait. If the pukes win big in November, it will be a shootout between the White House and the GOPers. It will be a negative congressional session.
But then the media will just blame Obama going into 2012 and then they can take back the White House and start more wars and recessions.

It is moot, we toil, we strive, we beat ass. And when the baggers, and Rethugs are disheartened, and we are strong, we will push on. and on. And when we win this time, it becomes much harder year by year, to run neocons. Demographics will see us in power, till we are splintered by a new center left party. Till then, elections are ours to lose. And when the rethugs start spewing in earnest, Reagan bromides wont cut it. And when Obama calmly explains why their ideas are all juveline, and not well thought thru, and lectures them about reality, they will further be marginalized.

|
they just need to be bothered to get out and vote. It is typical for the party in power to lose seats in an off-year election, but it should be possible to keep those losses to a minimum.
That being said, I would hate to be a Democrat and go home and defend the billions and billions and billions of dollars that went to bailout big banks and big business when in comparison the average American Joe or Josephine who was hurting didn't get much. That's going to be a tough one.
