Democrats need a couple of big victories to excite their base...
...before the elections in November. The Democratic base is deflated at the present time. The healthcare legislation was a big victory but to the base, it was not that significant.

If they can pass meaningful financial reform, such as breaking up the big banks, than that might be a good start to arousing the base to vote in November.

The Party is not excited. The only thing that will get them to the polls is to change Bush policies and pass some meaningful legislation before November. TV ads will not cut it. The voters want results.

3. Like passing HCR was a big yawn. Like improving America's image in the world is horse pucky.
Honestly, if the base can't get excited about what Obama has been able to accomplish since he was elected, then the base needs to go fuck itself...and I say that as a lifelong D who's been voting since '72.

7. Yes, the base is hard to please...
Especially with so much Bush garbage still hanging around. It almost seems like the negatives counter the positives sometimes?

I'm just calling it the way I see it. I don't think Democrats are very excited right now. And I think we need a couple of big victories to celebrate before November to get them "fired up" again.

Maybe the expectations were simply too high after the disastrous Bush?

4. If HCR law was "not significant" to the base.. then the base is more fucked up than the teabaggers

The most significant Democratic legislation in two decades... something the base has clamored for over the course of decades.... something that was Ted Kennedy's dream....

"not significant"

if you think it was "not significant".... then, frankly, you suck.

5. Real meaningful financial reform would do it
But I honestly have zero faith that they will pass anything except a RW give away to the banks and they will screw us all again in the name of "bipartisanship".

6. Didn't we have a couple big victories? Oh yeah, the WH and Congress.
I remember being excited. Then, sadly, reality set in.

Not saying it's not better, but it's tough to "get excited"

8. They generally don't care about their base.
We usually get nothing but kicked.
