Perot said it remained to be seen if the (tea party) movement would evolve into a third party in U.S. politics or if a leader of the loosely organized group would emerge. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100421/ap_on_re_us/us_perot_tea_party

4. Say what you like, but he was right about NAFTA. |

Or as a Canadian friend of mine remarked at the time "NAFTA is the agreement to turn Canada into a third-world country."

of the popular vote, it scared both the Republicans and Democrats so badly that they collaborated to create the Commission on Presidential Debates, whose sole purpose was to ensure that no third party candidate would ever get into a debate ever again.

14. 3rd party? The Tea Party is just a "grass roots" rebranding of the GOP. |
|
Kinda like how Blackwater is now Exelon or Phillip Morris is now Altria.
Their beliefs, their members, their leaders, even their talking-points, all come directly from the Republican Party. I can't think of a single ideological issue in which the Tea Party "movement" deviates from the official conservative GOP party line. The one major difference seems to be that the Tea Party encourages its members to use openly violent and racist rhetoric. This is convenient for the GOP, since they can then pretend they have nothing to do with those crazy teabaggers whenever some nutjob cross the line. A kind of straw man for plausible deniability.
The Perot crowd, as looney as they were, were a legitimate rebellion against the two dominant parties, IMO.
