The Poll said San Diego wants to go Arizona all over immigrant ass... |
|
God, I think want to vomit. I live in San Diego, just south of VanDam peak and close enough to Poway to spit on a right wing church. The shame, the terrible shame. It feels like I've woken up in the midst of a production of "Springtime for Hitler and Germany."
Of course, San Diego County has always been home to a virulent strand of white supremacy. Goes back to the period just after the Civil War. Republicans, of the northern corporate variety settled San Diego. In the back country, especially around Julian, the Confederates settled. They actually sued a Metzger and his bunch and took his property hear. (He lived around Fallbrook.)
But the county is conservative and now, well we (the poll says it though I didn't vote) that we think Arizona did it right. We (the poll says it though I didn't vote) want to pass a law that allows illegal search and seizure of anyone that looks a little illegal, and brown, and speaks with a Mexican accent. The beaches will be denuded of sunbathers in about five minutes. Except for Blacks Beach, which is clothing optional, which is nuded all the time.
A now I feel a need to apologize for to Arizona Democrats. You have my apology and my sympathy.

1. This is why this poison needs to stop |
|
or it will spread
And I an not surprised at all. Problem is trying to do it in San Diego MIGHT BE A LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT. Hope this wakes people around. This is part of US History and American as Apple Pie.
Now to the apology, like Prop 8 this is in the water.

And if they called certain areas, east of I-15 and north of I-8...

5. Given I cannot find it there |
|
and that I at times find Rasmussen as an outlier that gives you a 47%.
This is not that comforting, but not the crazy majorities we saw in AZ, where the same practice leads to 65% (Rasmussen had it at 75%)
And yes this is Spring Time for Hitler, but this is where the radicals want to go. They WANT a race war.

that Arizona is going to lose billions of $$$ over this. Perhaps other states should consider that before they go too far like Arizona has. Apart from the fact that this is totally wrong, it is also totally "bankrupt" in ethics and finances.

9. The backlash will stop states and cities |
|
and trust me, this county cannot afford the lawsuits.
But given what I know of this county, 45% agreeing would not shock me.
We have a strong white supremacist movement in the East County...

10. We sure do have our share of nutballs out here, don't we? |

I'm up in the Temecula/Murrieta area, and am surrounded. I have a healthy circle of progressive friends, however, and there are huge numbers of progressives in San Diego County; BUT we have our share of nuts.
Folks around the U.S., this Californian is here to tell you that we Californians rely on our legislature, chock full of progressives, to stop most of the madness; AND we WILL get Prop. 8 repealed.

I wonder, should I travel with my papers next time I go to East County?
And I swear we should have a DU Meet Up in this county.

My problem is that I only have one copy of my birth certificate, and I don't want to pay to get another. Hubby's and Daughter's are out-of-state, and cost big bucks. Our certificates stay in our vault. I guess we have to order extra copies of everything now (rolling my eyes) - even to go the Zoo. Yikes!
I'd love to go to a meetup some time.

11. The good thing is, they wouldn't get away with a law like that anywhere in the state |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-28-10 12:54 AM by KingFlorez
They tried and failed years ago, all they can do is talk. San Diego County, Riverside County and Orange County are the right-wing holds in SoCal, but there are still plenty of progressive about to have an impact.

15. Thank Heaven for the progressives up north. |
|
Otherwise, my fifty-one years in SoCal (my entire life) would have been MUCH different; thank Heaven for our consistently progressively-minded legislature, which generally ignores the nutballs elected from the aforementioned districts (thank Heaven again).

19. San Diego isn't all bad |
|
Obama became the first democratic candidate to win a majority in the county since 1944. The city of San Diego itself is democratic. The GOP areas are to the east and north of the city proper. My aunt and uncle live in El Cajon which used to be in Duncan Hunter Sr.'s district who was a notorious birther/xenophobe. They are self described "red-hot" republicans. I always avoid talking politics with them whenever I see them.

North of I-8... south them (insert minority here) live you know... (and i know that is not fully the case, but the local ol' boys tend to believe this), and east of I-15...
Oh and welcome to DU.
