Just how stupid are Republicans? |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-28-10 11:19 AM by kentuck
Imagine the shoe was on the other foot? The Republicans were attempting to bring a bill to the floor to debate in order to regulate the big banks and Wall Street that put us into this deep recession. But the Democrats blocked them at every turn. The Democrats would not even let it come up for debate. So long as it cannot be debated, it cannot be voted upon. If that were the situation, would you support the Democratic Party?
After you lost much of your 401K value and your life savings, would you want the banks and Wall Street to continue operating as they were before the crash? Do you want to gamble that you will not lose everything? Would this not be a dangerous gamble? Or would you simply trust your Party to do what is right?
I cannot see Democrats being silent if the shoe was on the other foot. But where are the Republicans? Are they really that stupid? They have been given a reprieve. They have regained much of their 401K values. They are not as nervous as they were 16 months ago. So they remain silent.
I guess it is true? Stupid can't be fixed.

1. They're counting on the Mighty Republican Wurlitzer |
|
And given the track record of the Right Wing Echo Chamber, they will be successful to some degree in selling the idea that they thwarted the evil socialists who wanted to steal your life savings so that you could lose it all in the rigged game known as the stock market. Oops, they won't mention that second part. But they will sell the daylights out of the first part, trying to trick people into thinking that greater oversight and regulation of the financial markets will lead to some unspecified evil outcome that nobody can quite name. Meanwhile the very real evil outcomes that reduce so many people to penury will escape scrutiny.
At least, that's what I think they're hoping to do. And with their pom-pommed cheerleaders at so many popular media outlets covering their story, it's quite possible they will succeed to some degree.

4. GOP Members will cave on this |
|
They're following their leadership up to a point, then a bunch of them will switch to vote with dems for reform.
