California releases new seismic hazard map with 50 new faults

In its first update of the state’s fault map in 16 years, the California Geological Survey showed the locations of 50 new seismic faults that had been discovered in the intervening years. The map serves as a stark reminder of just how geologically active the Golden State is.

(snip)

The release of the maps coincides with the California Geological Survey’s 150th anniversary. Print versions of the maps are available but also are online interactive versions that overlay the faults with Google Maps.
