My favorite Philly Chinese restaurant just raised the prices on fish-laden dishes tonight... |
|
I've been going there 35 years...my friend the owner said: "You better get used to it...wholesale prices are up and going to skyrocket."
Had my favorite: Seafood Combination medium spicy with a whole order of deee-licious steamed meat dumplings (thin noodle - transparent...not the thick Wonton Soup kind)...My fortune said: "You will attend a party with many interesting people." I guess that'sDU...or the Correspondent's Dinner tonight.

I heard this week that this is high season for fishermen and shrimpers in the gulf. One CNN interview had a guy who said he makes his money for the YEAR to support his family in May/June.

I think I'll run over to the Nawlins restaurant downtown (run by nice Nawlins mom n pop folks) and see how they're doing. They have (had?) a weekly crawfish boil there. Hope that's not a thing of the past. :(

As "less developed" countries join the march of progress, the prices will rise -- especially for uncompetitive places like the US.

13. About 15% of US seafood production comes from the Gulf of Mexico |
|
That's a big hit to supply, which explains the rising prices.
