Today we went to the Ne. Renaissance Faire

Marta was wearing her Obama 2008 shirt. We spoke with several out of state people that loved to talk Obama and co. The guy selling home made root beer was in Hawaii at the moment it was announced Obama won. Great story. A couple from Minnesota talked of the increased effort on beating Michele Bachmann. We had a great time talking to out of towners. It was a nice change from the usual red state slant.

We also bought a large set of dragons to keep evil (Republican) spirits. :-)

Sterling Forest, Tuxedo Park way back in 1977!!!! when no one had even heard of it.

It is amazing how much it has grown in the intervening years.
Back then it was pretty small, and relatively non-commercial.

Mostly craftspeople selling their stuff.

Not so true anymore, but it is still beautiful to see.

How long has the New York Renaissance Faire been operating?

2010 is our 33rd season

2. This year's Renaisannce Faire
will have sign language interpreter for one day. We can't wait to drive down to Larkspur and check it out. We went there a few years ago, and had a good time, but wished there was an interpreter for us.

3. I used to like to screw with the local Creative Anachronism people
They wanted me in the "Shyre of Mooneschadowe" (actual spelling) because I could juggle. I asked them what were the rules for my character, and they said anyone alive during the Renaissance. I said, "Fine. Aztec." They told me no. :(

6. When SCA first started there were some guys that wanted to be Neaderthals
SCA changed the rules and restricted personas to between 500 and 1500 AD. One couple from Gainesville had Japanese personas - very well done with great costumes and totally in character while at events. The wife was Japanese, the husband not - but when he was in persona, he **looked** Asian.

Renaissance Fair is different than SCA, by the way, though there is a lot of crossovers. Our group would have let you be Aztec - but I have not been active since around 1980 so the rules may have changed again.

I'm sure Marta will take one of her new dragons later today. It is a work day for me.

5. We used to have a permanent RennFest about a half hour north of us in Milton, Ontario...
it operated on weekends for the entire summer, in a really well done medieval village setting. We used to take the kids every year, to see the jousting, and entertainers. Zoltan the Adequate and Men in Tights were our favourites.

Sadly, the Ontario Rennaisance Festival closed down about 5 years ago.
