More Than a Million in U.S. May Lose Jobless Benefits
Time to put pressure on these assholes in Congress who would rather see people starve than to put in another tier of EUI:

Democrats have struggled to pass legislation just to maintain current benefits over Republican objections about adding to the deficit. Benefits have been interrupted twice because of efforts by Republican Senators Jim Bunning, of Kentucky, and Tom Coburn, of Oklahoma.

“We’re trying to extend unemployment assistance as it currently exists and we’re having a devil of a time getting that done,” said Dorgan.

President Barack Obama signed into law this month a measure extending until June the date by which individuals can qualify for 99 weeks of aid, a move designed to buy lawmakers time while negotiating a bill that would continue such eligibility through year’s end.

That won’t help people like Stephney. And Representative Jim McDermott, a Washington Democrat who supports another extension of benefits, said there’s so little support for the idea that he hasn’t bothered to introduce legislation.

“What happens to these families when they have no money for food, no money for their rent and no money for their health care?” said McDermott. “It’s a problem that nobody around here wants to talk about.”

So "little" support when extensions were passed last fall almost unanimously by Congress? You lying sacks of shit.

3. There is far less chance of that happening than a Tier V being put in
People are going to be homeless by the millions if Congress continues with their delaying tactics.

With less money being channeled into the economy because of the cutoff in benefits, even more people will be unemployed.

4. The Goldman Sachs comment is unreal
Those numbers will grow, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc., which projects that more than 400,000 may soon begin losing benefits every month.

“The political climate is not as conducive to additional expansions as it had been last year,” a Goldman analysis said. “The result is likely to be a greater share of unemployed workers not receiving unemployment compensation.”

5. Millions to lose jobless benefits
Dear Representaive McDermott,
If you truly believe there is a need for an extension of benefits then why not introduce legislation? Why do you care about the support if you believe it is the right thing to do? Might you just be paying lip service?

I had the below printed in the Las Vegas Sun after three tries and I believe it was only because I contribute so often. We have a long and hard fight ahead of us. With the short term extension lasting through the end of this month, they will not consider anything because Congress is reactive and not proactive. Best of luck to all.

Dear Sun,
Americans called the 99ers have exhausted all unemployment benefits. This has occurred at a time of still record unemployment. The 99ers and all unemployed Americans need an unemployment extension through 2010.
Last fall unemployment benefits ended for millions of Americans and the economy went downhill. Towards the end of last year unemployment benefits were extended and the first quarter of 2010 saw a stabilization of the economy. I believe this in large part is due to the extension of unemployment benefits.
Without an extension of unemployment benefits the economy will flounder with more foreclosures and greater demands on public services. Negativism will continue to grip employers and employees alike. An extension of unemployment benefits, including a Tier V, would create stability in the economy. With stability the employed would stop fearing layoffs and could reasonably believe the worst is over leaving them to open up their pocketbooks again. For employers, stability and increased spending by consumers would allow them to consider hiring.
With the lack of available jobs preventing people from returning to gainful employment the extension of unemployment benefits, including a Tier V, would decrease pressure for services from state and local government, eliminate the negativism that pervades the country and directly stimulate the recovery of the economy.

Dems Have No Plans to Extend Unemployment Benefits

http://washingtonindependent.com/83673/dems-have-no-plans-to-extend-unemployment-benefits

“You can’t go on forever,” said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, of Montana, whose panel oversees the benefits program. “I think 99 weeks is sufficient,” he said.

“There’s just been no discussion to go beyond that,” said Senator Byron Dorgan, a North Dakota Democrat.

7. Note those two morons are from states with the lowest unemployment
People need to ratchet up the pressure.

How in the hell these people think that by NOT adding another tier of benefits will help them in the election is a mystery to me.

8. Right. And their state funds are still solvent
unlike 26 other states in trouble or already bankrupt and borrowing.

It's bad news.
