WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- A U.S. House hearing to examine issues related to the Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) safety recalls has been rescheduled for May 20.

The hearing, before the House Energy and Commerce Committee's oversight panel, was originally scheduled for Thursday. The hearing will examine how Toyota and federal auto-safety regulators responded to reported incidents of Toyota vehicles that accelerated beyond the driver's control.

Separately, another House Energy and Commerce panel will hold a hearing Thursday to discuss an auto-safety bill designed to address issues raised in previous Toyota hearings. The bill would raise the amount of fines for auto makers found to have committed safety lapses, set new design standards for brakes and other vehicle components, and make public more car-defect information provided to safety regulators.
