"---when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality –
judiciously, as you will – we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors … and you, all of you, will be left to study what we do.” http://www.consortiumnews.com/2004/101904.html

The person quoted in this article was an aide to George W. Bush, but, it seems to me, he speaks for the majority of Republicans: "reality" is what they decide it is and, once they decide, actual verifiable facts are unnecessary. Further, if convenient, Republicans can simply change reality by announcing it.

As despicable as these smarmy hypocrites may be, they are no worse than the damned supposed liberals who simply sputter and cluck and mutter about how "transparent" and "unprincipled" the wingnut liars are, all the while ALLOWING THEM TO CONTINUE without getting right up in their face and calling them what they are: lying bastards who would sell their soul if they had one and could turn a profit or gain power over the lives of others.

What the hell are Democrats waiting for?

We've permitted the theft of two elections, the slandering of our genuine war heroes and the creation of a swaggering Republican fighter pilot wannabe. We stood by while neo-con chickenhawks stampeded the ignorant into an immoral war of aggression by simply announcing that Saddam and Osama were allies; that Iraq possessed biological, chemical and nuclear "weapons of mass destruction" which they could deliver to our shores in pilotless drone aircraft.

Recently, we've allowed, without knocking even one sorry sack-o-shit Republican on their spongy ass, the ridiculous "made up out of whole cloth" slander that President Obama 1.) is not a US citizen, 2.) is a muslim socialist Marxist nazi, 3.) hates white people, and, 4.) is determined to raise everyone's taxes and take everyone's guns.

When does this spineless "political realism" end? Give me some passionate, "naive" and "politically unsophisticated" OUTRAGE any day rather than the calm, bloodless, measured tsk-tsking of the Tim Kaine wing of---what passes for the Democratic Party nowadays.

These patient hand-wringers make me want to puke! Asses need kicking, people! Not all of them are on the other side of the aisle. Let's get on with it!

3. Kind of--except that new agers usually are careful to include
"for the good of all", in their affirmations.

Rightwingers don't care about that shit.

5. No. This type of reality creation amounts to: "Loudly announce an outrageous

but, politically advantageous and useful "fact". Before rational people can collect and articulate information which disproves your announcement, make another at least equally outrageous claim. Before your distracted opponents can recover and rebut your second lie, release a third and a fourth and---. This is what led to the "outrage fatigue" we all felt during the Bush years.

11. Thank you, rhiannon55 and Atticus.
I was multitasking and couldn't get back. I agree with this term, "Outrage Fatigue" and it's meaning. I was just discussing this sort of thing with a friend yesterday and how it relates to the oil "spill".

4. The name I've used for what you've described is the culture of lies
created in no small part through corporate media consolidation and deregulation.

It's gotten to the point where citizens of the United States (increasingly on both sides of the aisle) can no longer even agree on what basic, objective facts are- and even when they do, ape the poor reasoning and communication skills that they see exemplified in the media.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how a nation that's collectively engaged in (and supportive of) this type of dynamic will meet the challenges and solve the problems of the 21st Century.

7. Maybe that is what it will take
America may need a lesson in humility. I personally dont want third world status but to be a partner with the rest of the world and not it's overlord. The right wingers wont care, they can always keep reliving the civil war, though personally why would you want to keep remembering how you got your ass kicked? Takes all kinds I guess.

8. I've been meaning to post something on this, thanks.
It is amazing that while they talked a huge um game ;-) they didn't move quickly. In fact they were sputtering until 9/11 happened then "the decider" was told what to do by people who had spent far too long thinking about things that made no sense to begin with.

Now, we see someone actually governing and using the biggest megaphone to talk about what they are actually doing. All the mouthpieces that screamed the Bush mantra now are saying "Is he doing too much?" "Should he slow down?" and so forth.

9. You make it sound like there are two parties, one for the people and the other not
Neither are for the people - they've just got different roles. The Republicans use bully style and fear mongering and the Democrats wring their hands and ask us to write petitions. The reason so many people are mad at the Democrats now is that, since they are ostensibly the majority, sniveling in pretend fear doesn't play as well in Peoria or anywhere for that matter.

What the hell are the Democrats waiting for? Nothing. They have their game face on and the dog and pony show is in full swing.

For many of us, myself included, it took "our team" becoming the "majority" to make it just as plain as the noses on our faces that few in Washington are actually on the side of the people. It's time to look elsewhere for the fix because DC is busy kowtowing to Wall Street and every other corporation. Do I have an answer? No.
