Why is Earthlink censoring my emails? |
|
Friends send stuff to me and I send to them. They say they receive info that says undeliverable? Why?
What is the problem?
Somebody seems threatened by what I send?

1. Could just be a glitch too |
|
write Earthlink and ask. I've had email probs (not Earthlink) for the last 2 weeks, and nothing I sent was remotely of interest to anybody other than me and my friends, just stupid stuff.

2. Have someone forward you the error message |
|
and then forward that to Earthlink. I've never had any problems with them. And their spam filter is excellent! Hmmm, maybe someone has flagged one of your messages as spam?

3. Suggested diagnosis procedure... |
|
Get a free e-mail account from one of the many people who have such accounts. Use something different from your current screen name.
Get your friends to send e-mail to both accounts. Have them BCC the mail to your current Earthlink account.
If you get those messages in both places, you should be okay.
By the way, from your brief description, it may be that your friends don't have virus protection, someone got into their crappy Microsoft e-mail system and stole your name, and are spamming you using their names. You should NEVER use Internet Explorer or Microsoft mail programs; get something like Mozilla Seamonkey for a full internet suite that's a lot safer (and free).

Hope it helps. Its been a pain with earthlink. Although of course they will continue to control the flow of my email and there are not alot of choices thanks to the monopolization of our internet access options.

i am white listed to send emails to many..i have several internet groups i send info to daily ..and have for 5 years now..and out odf the blue this week i had my aol just totally shut down..
they lied to me and said there were 60 complaints about me sending emails..but that is bullshit..because i sent then an email to all those in my groups asking everyone to write me a note saying if they wanted my emails of info or not..all of the people i send to responded that they love my emails info..everyone wrote me that..they are the only ones i email..
so aol lied to me!!
i think this admin is having all the internets slow down the flow of info ...
someone else i know who runs internet groups is having the same problem with Verizon this week!
I BELIEVE ..that this administration is doing net stuff without passing any laws..they are just doing it!!
i am calling my congress people and senators Monday about it.. we are all getting censored right now!!
and it seems this administration is deliberately slowing the flow of info on their many many crimes!!

Most of the big ISP's are losing as much as 40% of their email because of spam. Their mail servers are getting hammered, spam filters are overly-aggressive and emails go into the blasmos, never to be seen again.

9. If you try mailing attachments that might be being rejected... |
|
Just the other night I got a tar file and/or a zip file rejected when I tried to send it to my personal email address from another email account.
ISP's are going to reject stuff like that which looks like spam or viruses.

12. If you were shut down due to alleged complaints and you know |
|
you did nothing anyone should be complaining about, it is likely you've been spoofed. Through various schemes, someone dopes out your email addy and then sends spam or worse to other people's mailboxes, using your address as their return, it is not unexpected that someone would complain to your ISP.
This has happened to me a few times and the only way I knew what was happening was that I got a mailer daemon back advising me of the undeliverability of a message I never sent. As long as the message-whatever it was-shows up as undeliverable, no problem, other than the obvious discomfort with having my private mail invaded and used for unknown but certainly nefarious purposes.
However, if I get three or four notifications back that the message I didn't send couldn't be delivered, I wonder how many thousands or millions of copies of that message actually did get delivered. This kind of behavior is unconscionable and should be subject to far higher penalties than the few I've seen handed down, but first you gotta catch 'em and then you gotta prosecute them, in front of a judge and jury who, most likely, don't view the matte as very serious or have no real idea what all the fuss is about.

13. make sure that your friend has your email address right |
|
Edited on Sun May-06-07 04:52 AM by Marnieworld
that usually causes this. Or make sure that neither one of you has marked the other as "SPAM" within your email software. I'm 99% sure it's just a technical issue. People get undeliverable notices all of the time for a number of perfectly normal reasons. Earthlink is not censoring you.
