SPLC lists F.A.I.R. as a hate group; they get mainstreamed anyway by NPR & CSPAN

on the immigration issue. No wonder 1070 polls so well.

I believe this article from the SPLC has already been posted here.

Hate Group Lawyer Drafted Arizona’s Anti-Immigrant Law

Arizona’s controversial anti-immigrant law was written by a lawyer at the legal arm of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), which the Southern Poverty Law Center has listed as an anti-immigrant hate group since 2007. The law, a recipe for racial profiling, would make the failure to carry immigration documents a crime and give the police broad power to detain anyone suspected of being in the country illegally. (See statement by SPLC Legal Director Mary Bauer.)

http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2010/04/28/hate-group-lawyer-drafted-arizona-anti-immigrant-law/?ondntsrc=MBQ100570NWS&newsletter=newsgen-20100513

But, apparently this listing doesn't prevent NPR and CSPAN from using spokeshaters from this group as promoters of the AZ SB1070 -- without disclosing to their audiences.

Here's one example from NPR (snip):

NPR conducted separate interviews with two supporters of the law to talk about its appeal and intended effects. Bob Dane is director of communications for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a Washington-based group that favors stricter immigration limits and helped draft the Arizona law. Mark Krikorian is executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, another group in Washington that seeks lower immigration levels.

And here's the Washington Journal episode:

Daniel Stein, Federation for American Immigration Reform President, and Frank Sharry, America’s Voice Founder and Executive Director, talked about the new immigration law in Arizona that will make it a state crime to be in the country illegally and would require migrants to produce papers verifying their status and it’s federal implications. They also responded to telephone calls and electronic communications. C-SPAN Radio's Bobbi Jackson read news headlines at the end of the program.

(transcript at link)

I don't watch the corporate cable channels so I'm probably missing other appearances by these people. This OP is a little follow up to a discussion we were having late last night about how this bill is being framed in the media. It occurred to me today that not only is it being framed as an immigration bill when it doesn't add anything to AZ's LEOs ability to manage their end of immigration, but that framing is being done in part by a hate group in respectable drag with the full complicity of the presstitutes, especially the ones who pose as public servants.

with reasonable people (and factual statements).

The #1 cause behind America's inexorable decline over the past two decades, IMHO.

People bring up an analogy to Germany, but South Africa apartheid comes more to mind for me.

4. Yep. I've been trying to raise Pieter Dirk Uys
for an interview. Maybe he'll be more interested if we can talk about his work in SA to end apartheid now that it has a more obviously direct application to us. :(

6. Yes, they are a hate group.
My take on FAIR, Tanton, The Pioneer Fund, etc. http://americancommentary.wordpress.com/2010/05/01/arizona-government-officials-dabble-in-fascist-legal-tactics-goal-could-be-to-continue-the-republican-party-practice-of-minority-voter-suppression-on-election-day/">here. The problem is they have "legitimacy" with media and members of Congress. They should have no legitimacy whatsoever.

I suppose, if they were a corporation, they could sue over the name.

It's easy to doubt the name choice of the bigot FAIR was entirely accidental.

14. I'd be willing to bet that that confusion was deliberate
on the part of the hate group... choosing a name whose acronym is identical to an established, respectable organization in order to hide their true motives.

Bet they fooled NPR, too.

19. I've written to SPLC
more than once when they solicit me. Years ago, I used to be an active supporter of SPLC when I was monitoring the militia movement. I quit supporting them when Obama became the Democratic candidate for the presidency. I knew the rabid rightwing wackos would be pouring out their hatred of the man, simply because the color of his skin. I repeatedly stated that I would not financially support SPLC if they did not call out rightwing hate merchants like limbaugh, o'reilly, hannity, savage and other conservanazi ilk.

This is a step in the right direct, however, when limbaugh and his cohorts hit the list, they can expect a check from me. Until then, do without.

every day. I don't understand, for example, why Pat Buchanan is allowed on the air by anyone. He's a bigot of the first waters. But there he is, all the time.

26. Buchanan is an ideological idiot.
He's such a douche bag. He comes up with some outlandish statements. A few years back, when he ran for President, I researched him. Now, here's another conservanazi patriot. Proud of the fact that he was running so many miles a day. Yet, during the height of the Vietnam War, he had a deferment. I believe it was a physical one. So, like so many conservanazi patriots who are eager to throw other young Americans into battle, they didn't want to serve. Champion pieces of shit is all they are.
Like you say, how can this idiot get face time on TV? I don't really know. But, he's there, continously making and ass of himself and his conservanazi friends.
