Tar balls washing up on Key West beach.
No link yet, but it was just reported on Tampa Bay's 10Connects as breaking news, otherwise I would have posted it in LBN.

They said 20 balls between 3 and 8" in diameter have been recovered so far. I guess this means it's gotten into the loop current.

11. Or Sailfishing..or Tarpon, or Snook..and from the Keys..it is onward and upward in the Atlantic
Seaboard..via the Gulf-stream.

This is an ecological disaster of the greatest magnitude!

15. Except -- I heard a progressive radio host from Alaska talking about after Exxon,
when people walked on the beaches where there was dispersant, their rubber boots started melting!

So if there's any dispersant coming your way, just steer clear!

14. Even "the greatest magnitude" sounds like an understatement. I'm not sure we
have the words to accurately describe the enormity and horror of this.

get in the loop, it's in the loop.

Tar Balls Found Along Key West Shoreline

Coast Guard, Scientists To Search Coastlines

<snip>

"Tar balls are starting to roll up on Florida beaches.

Coast Guard officials said 20 tar balls were found on the beach at Fort Zachary Taylor State park on Monday.

Park rangers said they found several more tar balls throughout the day along the shore, with the heaviest concentration happening at high tide. The tar balls were found at the adjacent Navy beach at Truman Annex, as well.

Crewmen said samples of the tar balls were taken to a lab for analysis."

28. MR's vacations are not the only worry I have.
Went to bed and started thinking my post might be a bit shallow. My concerns lie with the entire spector of this disaster.

10. I heard two weeks ago on Tampa news that it had gotten into the Loop Current then!!
Once it gets into the Loop Current they said on that report..it moves fast down the Fla coast.

Once down By the Keys it gets into the Gulf Stream..and goes around the Keys and enters the Atlantic Ocean.
It will then migrate up the Atlantic seaboard.

All I see is nothing but a f'ing cover up going on..it is sickening!!

We had dead birds and shitty air in Clearwater 2 weeks ago! I damn well want to know the toxicity of what we were breathing in our air ..FOR Days!!

Thanks for the info Dr Phool..I will pass it on to other Floridians in my email groups!!

A big Hi..Dr Phool!!:hi:

16. I agree about the coverup.
Both BP and the government are doing everything they can to minimize the catastrophe. It's something I know well from Katrina.

Regarding the air, here are the results from an independent group monitoring Venice, Louisiana earlier this month:
http://leanweb.org/news/latest/evaluation-of-epa-air-monitoring.html

I live about 100 miles north of Venice and it is awful here on those days when the wind blows the wrong way. It must be choking near the coast.

I'm sad to see that the oil is spreading.

17. HEY! We just got $25 million from BP for tourism commercials.
There's no need to start spreading truth and facts around here.

Knock it off, dammit. Our beaches are clean, fishing is good. Come to Florida!

19. I think I ate the last clean gulf grouper Friday night, for my birthday dinner.
Stone crab season ended yesterday, and the crabbers are worried there won't be another one.

The owner was talking about buying 5,000 pounds of grouper, fast.

25. Happy belated Birthday DR Phool!!..Yes the fisherman said right away the grouper woud suffer greatly
as they swim 600 ft under water and the oil would migrate there first.

And grouper is a huge food source in Fla.

The shrimp will also suffer greatly..be cautious of the farmed shrimp from China..we may be seeing more and more of that junk in the near future..it was already a problem of is being sold as gulf shrimp..it is not.

Happy Birthday Dr Phool!!
