Does anyone know if you can travel with a real film camera, |

or what you have to do with it when you fly? My daughter is flying for the first time this summer. We don't have to worry about the trip down since we're driving down to FL, but she wants to take her film camera and wasn't sure if she would run into problems coming back on a flight. I'm not sure what airline they'll be flying - probably Southwest. Need to speak to the in-laws. The extent of our traveling is camping.

4. They say it should be fine unless you have very fast (high ISO) film but ... |

always ask them to hand inspect them instead. Never know if the have the xray cranked higher than normal.
Less and less people even bother w/ film so it shouldn't be a problem with them.
When I flew last month a lady in front of me demanded they hand inspect her digital memory cards. :) She was convinced the xray machine keeps throwing off the color balance of her vacation photos. Guess nobody told her the auto white balance in most cameras is worthless. I didn't have the heart to tell her she should invest in a graycard. She likely wouldn't believe me anyways.

5. My daughter took two disposable cameras to Europe. She handed them around the X-Ray machine. |
|
Curiously, they didn't even INSPECT them. The guy behind the machine just passed them on to the woman on the other side and she handed them back to my daughter.

6. Thanks for the info. I'll let her and gmom know. |
|
She's just completed her first year of black/white photography class in school. I think she's planning on taking some color film to get used to settings before school starts again in the fall. She has to have her portfolio ready for her college application by January, so she's working on building that over the summer.

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1035.shtmI think the key points are don't put it in your checked baggage, and don't let it go through the machines too many times...
