So, let me get this straight. The Times does 2 hit pieces on Blumenthal in one day?

(snip)

One other note: This afternoon, Halbfinger and the Times put up an interview with former Republican Rep. Chris Shays of Connecticut, who says he is a "good friend" of Blumenthal's. In the interview, Shays said Blumenthal gradually embellished his Vietnam story. And at the press conference today, Halbfinger specifically asked Blumenthal about Shays accusations.

Yet Halbfinger and the Times have not noted that McMahon gave $5,000 to Shays since 2005, with an additional $3,000 from her husband.

From now until November, it is crucial that the New York Times and other outlets treat the Connecticut Senate race as more than the political version of a Battle Royal it threatens to become.

(end snip)

Here is the second hit from the Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/19/nyregion/19shays.html

Former Representative Christopher Shays of Connecticut, a Republican who says he is a good friend of Richard Blumenthal’s, said in an interview Tuesday that he had watched with worry as Mr. Blumenthal gradually embellished his military record over the years.

As prominent Democrats in the state rallied to Mr. Blumenthal’s side on Tuesday, saying they had never seen him describe himself as a Vietnam veteran or chalking such misstatements up to a momentary lapse, Mr. Shays’s comments appeared to bolster the idea that Mr. Blumenthal’s descriptions of his military record had been somewhat embroidered, bit by bit, with the passage of time.

(end snip)

That's it??? Failed Thuglican Chris Shays is worried??? Shays' comments appeared to bolster...??? What the Hell is the Times trying to do? This is hard hitting journalism??? Publishing oppo from the McMahon camp and calling it their own hard hitting journalism??? Publishing Chris Shays' worries??? I don't think I have ever been quite so disgusted with the MEdia.

1. Ah, good old Chris Shays. I had thought we were rid of him here in CT.
I don't buy anything that Shays tries to sell me.

2. But embroidering his military record fits with his quest for sensational cases to advance his career
Just another smart, but arrogant, politician who thought he was clever enough to get away with it.

He should have stayed in NYC and gone to work for Goldman Sachs.

3. What the Hell is the Times trying to do?
NY paper friendly with the financial power brokers in NY tries to take out a candidate who as AG has taken the NY financial power brokers to task for defrauding the average person.

Nope, nothing to see there........

7. NYC is one of the financial capitals of the world, if not THE financial capital of the world.
Goldman Sucks owns NYC. And this should not surprise you. Have you taken a look at the Obama administration lately?

9. No surprise to me
But some here would rather replace a proven consumer watchdog with a last minute unknown against the wife of a multi-millionaire wrestling huckster just because the NYT says he has exaggerated an unimportant point a few times.

4. Yep
I'm sure it was evil republicans that forced him to "misstate" his record on at least 2 occasions and he never read or heard of multiple stories in the largest papers in the state that described him as a "Vietnam" veteran. I believe in the tooth fairy and supply-side economics too!

5. Okay
I find it odd that a politician that is building up his military record does it by misstating his record on one occasion and making an imbiguous statement one other time ... then consistently stating he did not serve in Vietnam. Believe what you want ... I will too.

8. Sure looks like the NYTimes -puke- is trying to get rid of Blumenthal...
Edited on Tue May-18-10 10:28 PM by BrklynLiberal
They have always done a GREAT job of pointing out the lies that candidates have told in the past...right???????????
Adam Nagourney was always right up there fighting for the truth...
Like during the 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections....oh wait...NEVERMIND..

12. If your purpose is to help Blumenthal, I'd suggest posting nothing at all about this
and not kicking your own thread. The more you draw attention to Blumenthal's claims, the worse he looks. That may be why people are unreccing this - they think that Blumenthal's only hope is that everyone forgets about this as quickly as possible.
