Straight Couples Use Gay Marriage Loophole in France and Austria

While homosexuals in the United States and some European countries continue to fight for the right to marry, some heterosexual couples want only to be in a civil union and have no interest in marriage.

In France, 95% of couples joining in that’s country’s version of civil unions (pacte civil de solidarité) are heterosexual.

In Austria, Helga Ratzenboeck and Martin Seydl are suing the government to obtain a “registered partnership” because they don’t want a traditional marriage. They argue that the partnerships, created for gays and lesbians, should be available to everyone.

1. Would have worked for us.

I'm sure we would have done this if the opportunity had been available. I like it.

2. Great development
I encourage it as a way to maintain separation between church and state.

3. In Mexico they have Civil Unions
which are not recognized by the church, and church weddings which are not recognized by the state.

Catholics in Mexico get married twice.

5. Hmmm, I got married in church. I would really be into this though.
If you want one recognition or the other or both it is your choice.

6. here here! i was married by a judge. i think it's bullpucky for religion
to be influencing civil procedings. when one marries in a church, they are performing both at the same time.... but marriages recognized by the state are CIVIL.... they should be separate entities.

7. Same here, married by a Justice of the Peace
I don't see why the state should recognize religious ceremonies.
