When the progressive community/netroots knock off incumbents in primaries, we must. . . |
|
. . .redouble our efforts for the general election.
Remember beating Specter and Lincoln is not the objective, winning the seat in November is. Can and will the progressive community/netroots support Sestak and Halter (should he win the runoff) with the same passion in the general election as they/we did in the primary?
I preferred Sestak over Specter, but I liked Specter and wouldn't have been upset if he won. Also, I can't stand Lincoln, however I've always wondered if a Democratic Senator in Arkansas had to be right of center and the pundits are already saying the outcome of the Arkansas Democratic primary is almost irrelevant in that they expect the seat to turn red.
If we, especially those of us who do not live in a district/state, are going contribute/volunteer etc. in an effort to defeat an incumbent in a primary, shouldn't we have an even stronger plan and commitment to hold on to those seats in November?

Halter and Lincoln were both polling badly against the Republican. Lincoln did not poll better against him than Halter. And I feel I must point out, Halter is Lt. Governor which means he has won a statewide election before. We may lose this seat to the (R) but running Lincoln will provide no advantage over Halter.

3. Question, while Halter will be better than Lincoln if elected. . . |
|
. . .do think that the progressive/netroots community will understand and accepting him being a moderate? Much like what the tea baggers are seeing with Scott Brown?

And he is not as left as I'd like (few are) but he is much less a DINO than Lincoln. Act Blue is already raising a lot for him.

4. We ignore at our periil the fact that Halter has really given Lincoln |

a run for her money. The fact that he came so close in what the MSM are quick to label a red state should tell us something. The fact that the NetRoots had the courage to support him in a state where the talking heads would say we are not welcome and, by Gosh. he did very well speaks volumes.
I have often wondered? Is it easier for the establishment to keep control if it is believed only Conservatives can win in certain places? Is it easier for the GOP to get control if it is believed only Conservatives can win in certain places? Just wondering???
In an earlier thread today, the Pew Research Poll finds the country is not so center right. How frequently we hear the Mantra -- This is a center-right country. You know, Repeat something over and over and often enough and the people will believe it. The skin seems to be peeling off that onion.
