According to a letter to the editor in today's newspaper the Tea Party and 9-12ers are stalwart defenders of the glorious and godly principles set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. One of the readers took exception and said so in the online comments section:

"And where were the Tea Partiers when Bush referred to the Constitution as 'just a damn piece of paper'? Where were they when our rights became negotiable under the PATRIOT Act? Where were they when we were lied into a needless war in Iraq? Where were they when the man who had the most votes was displaced by the Supreme Court? Where were they when countless no-bid contracts went to friends of the Bush administration? Instead of asserting their right to carry loaded weapons to presidential events, why didn't they protest when Americans were banished from such events for having the wrong bumper sticker on their car? The anger over taxes doesn't wash, either, given that the middle class is presently paying about half what they paid under Reagan. Fear is their binding tie, and it's obvious to anyone who isn't a tea partier that their eruptive indignation is tied directly to the color of this President's skin."
