Seriously. That discussion is now over. Case closed.

1. I wouldn't broad brush an entire group.
I'm sure many of them are racist, just like many other americans including some democrats are racist. But to say every single one of them is racist would just be wrong.

6. Take the klan, for instance.
Sure, some of them might be racist, sure. But most of them are just proud of their pure aryan heritage.

14. Good point - many of them are just white separatists

They don't hate non-whites, they simply choose not to associate with them.

So, I wouldn't decide if the KKK was racist... before all the facts are in.

7. When it comes to the teabaggers, the vast majority are racist
and their newly elected leader is as blatantly racist as they come.

Wrapping up institutionalized racism in a "libertarian" package is still blatant racism.

10. Please... there are plenty of groups that can be broad brushed...
Some you can recognize by their attire... and some carry stupid signs...

16. Why not?
These people complain about taxes, when they're lower now than they've been since 1950. That's a fact. So what--exactly--really is their beef?

These people show up and say they want to take their government back. Where the fuck were they during the Bush years, when they truly NEEDED to take some of the power away from Bush? The spying, starting wars based on lies, RUNNING UP THE DEFICIT, tax cuts for the wealthy that never created the jobs we were promised they would...where were the tea baggers then?

They have signs depicting Obama as Hitler. They repeat the lie about death panels with health care reform. Have they not considered that every insurance company is a death panel? They decide who lives and dies every day in this country. Why aren't they complaining about that? Why is it just Obama's health care reform they are protesting?

We've seen the signs about the African in the White House, and on and on and on.

And anyone who would participate in such a thing is in a manner endorsing it. If they didn't agree with it, they would leave.

The tea baggers are racist. They are largely stupid people, but they are smart enough to know they can't just outright call Obama a n****r. Oh wait...

That man holding the sign is the "founder" of the Tea Party. No, not racist. Not at all. :eyes:

17. The movement itself is based on racial fears and xenophobia
There is an anti-tax movement and even an anti-government movement that has been against all taxes and all government growth. The teabaggers are not it. They are a reaction to a Black president and the changing demographics of this nation. Therefore anyone aligning itself to this teabagger movement is accepting a racially driven movement.

20. If the people who support Tea Parties say nothing or cheer when
A national Teabagger leader uses the word Niggardly on a sign about Obama, then goes for the cutesy "not what it means" defense, then yes, the whole fucking movement is racist.

21. Well, when so many in a group hare a common view
They tend to be associated with that view. Unfortunate, but it's human nature.

And in the Teabaggers' case, they don't seem to have too many voices arguing against that view.

So unless there's a verifiable source that most AREN'T racists, we can't be sure.

But that doesn't stop our human nature from making assumptions.

23. You join a group that is that filled with racists, and espouses racist positions
you are just as bad.

I'm not a racist. Can I join the KKK and still not be a racist?

13. If you close that discussion, be prepared to spend all your time...
Edited on Thu May-20-10 06:25 PM by LoZoccolo
...having that same argument outside of DU with people who are on the fence or indifferent toward the teabaggers. If you want to insist on it, it pretty much guarantees that it will become your entire dialog with them. If you think that's the best use of your time then stay doing what you're doing.

The same goes for arguing with teabaggers. If you want to argue with them over a point of fact of which they alone hold the ultimate answer of whether you are correct or incorrect, then go ahead. Just be aware that they are the first - and ultimately the only - person who knows whether or not you are right or wrong, so it's pretty pointless.
