Bullies Tattoo Vile Image, Words on Learning Disabled Teen, Say Police

NEW YORK (CBS) Four ruthless young men promised a 14-year-old boy they would stop picking on him if he let them tattoo his buttocks with an image of a penis and the words "poop dick" -- and then they proceeded to do exactly that, say police.

According to The Smoking Gun, a New Hampshire boy was enticed to a Concord home on May 10, where three Concord High School students and one former student warned the teen that he'd be getting the tattoo "whether he liked it or not," said investigators.

Investigators said the boy asked what would happen if he tried to flee and the bullies told him they'd catch him and beat him up, reported the website.

The victim, a ninth grader, has been "frequently targeted for ridicule by upperclassmen," investigators said, according to The Smoking Gun. They said the victim suffers from "learning disabilities and self-esteem issues."

Police have arrested the four suspects, Donald Wyman, 20, Ryan Fisk, 19, Travis Johnston, 18, and Blake VanNest, 18. A fifth attacker, who is 15, is also expected to be charged.

I don't understand how a child can be abused like this for any period of time without the adults involved not knowing what is going on.

10. This trend toward bullying as common behavior is very troubling.

I remember when there was maybe one bully per school class, and he was considered a jerk. This ganging up and picking on the weaker seems to have taken off in the 1990s, and has gotten out of control in this century. The youtube videos and myspace have been major contributing factors, it seems.

I think this is just a more physical demonstration of the way our country treats its poor, its immigrants, its powerless. Our system is designed to enable the powerful to intimidate and abuse the weaker members. This act is truly tragic; but, everyday our system beats down some little guy.

I think of their parents. If I were in the parents' place and found out my son had done something vile, it would make me seriously doubt if I had raised my child properly. Among other things, I must have failed to instill in him a sense of compassion or how to distinguish right from wrong, and how to resist the "going along with the crowd" mentality.

Granted, these are adults (although in years only, obviously) but as a mother, whenever I hear of such things, I wonder what sort of family the perpetrators come from. Was nastiness and cruelty condoned as they were growing up? Cowardice, so they have to find strength in numbers in addition to picking a victim younger and weaker than themselves?

That said, I hope they get the book thrown at them. What a bunch of cowardly, pathetic asswipes.
