Since drilling a relief well seems to be the only solution, here's a plan:
Obama announce a contest - whoever is first to drill a relief well that cuts off the spilling gets $10 billion. From BP.

Maybe Chevron, Exxon or somebody can drill faster.

Drill faster, baby, faster!

1. Did Chimp & Cheney kill all of Saddam Hussein's "slant drilling" experts?
Maybe they can figure out a way to get into this oil pocket without punching another goddamn hole in the earth underneath the gulf?

3. Being as there are already two in progress
which have an enormous head start, I don't think anyone's going to take you up on that offer.

The relief wells will work, and after the oil is stopped, we can make true progress in the cleanup. And the bill will be shoved onto BP, they have enough assets in the US that we can seize after a judgment is entered and all appeals are exhausted.

5. We can do something like that
We can file court cases in every jurisdiction where they have significant assets, and then file a document known as a lis pendens in every county records bureau, that will act as a hold on anything they've got, so they can't sell it.

It's remarkable what the law already has the ability to do, if only we have effective people using it.
