An important documentary I watched for the third time today: THE COVE, winner of Academy Award for |

Best Documentary 2010.
I knew it would be painful to watch this, but it was worth the pain to realize that we can make a difference in some instances where great injustice is being done.
This is a town in Japan where between the months of September and March they pretty much perform genocide on dolphins, from the babies to the parents, and this is a documentary that convinced me that this horror merits our attention and I am praying that others here agree.
I know that there are horrors all over the planet right now. Make no mistake. I get that. But in spite of that knowledge, I cannot help but cry for these beautiful mammals who are probably magnitudes of IQ smarter than we are, who will save us from predators for no apparent reason, who have been so kind to us regardless of how we have mutilated them and destroyed their families and habitats.
It makes me very sad, but maybe we can at least stop this one massacre in Japan, and that would be really huge, percentage-wise.
Thanks for reading this post. I know it is a bit rambling. This movie is so disturbing, and I have watched it three times in the past twenty four hours.
It makes me ashamed to be a human being.
It is called THE COVE, I bought it for nine bucks. It was directed by Louie Psioyos
EDIT: Corrected ridiculous mis spelling of "mammals"

1. They showed a clip of this on the Academy Awards, and even that was upsetting. |
|
I know I should watch it, but like you, I know it will be painful. Agonizing. Your bravery may be just the inspiration I need.
They're still continuing this practice, right?

3. Ok, I know nothing of this horror. |
|
So what is the given reason for such senseless slaughter?

7. Pigs are as smart as dolphins |
|
Instead of worrying about shit halfway around the world done by "insidious foreign devils" why don't you try to stop the slaughterhouses in your own state that process pork.
Are only the pretty or favored animals worth our pity?

The OP has become enlightened to a heinous event (not act, event) of animal cruelty and is posting about a celebrated piece of media that has put a solid focus on it. It's well deserving of being singled out, and the OP is raising awareness of it.
I'm sure that the victims of this slaughter would really be displeased with your dismissal of their situation, considering you said "instead of" rather than "in addition to"
Lastly, you don't know the OP do you? Tsk, tsk. So quick to hit the "not good enough" button. Like a vegan kicking a vegetarian because they eat cheese. Sigh. I've posted an OP here and there about The Cove and the slaughter in Taiji. If you had responded to one of my Cove posts in this way, I'd have fucking PISSED myself laughing at you.
Better to embrace people for their growing empathy and compassion for animals rather than shitting on them.

Any empathy and compassion someone extends to animals should be applauded rather than flamed. I'm glad you responded to that post and explained it better than I could.

11. I'm such a nerd, but when I watched this, I totally noticed dead pixels in one of the cams. |

I do that for a living, fix cameras. Still well done documentary, but I wish I hadn't eaten Sushi the day I watched it, with all the mercury talk.

12. I've been wanting to see it for a long time. |
|
It has a "very long wait" designation at Netflix, and has been like that for months. They should probably get more copies.
As much as I want to see it, I know I'll be crying.
