Despite Record-High Deportation Numbers, Kristol Says Obama Is ‘Reluctant’ To Enforce Immigration
Laws

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/05/23/bill-kristol-arizona/

Today, on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace, conservative pundit Bill Kristol slammed the Obama administration for denouncing Arizona’s immigration law. Specifically, Kristol insisted that his own Latino friends have no problem with the Arizona law and that Obama’s criticism is out of line. According to Kristol, the fact that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) head John Morton has indicated that his agency may not help Arizona enforce its likely unconstitutional law demonstrates the Obama administration’s overall “reluctance” to enforce the immigration laws that are already place:

I’ve spoken to a lot of African American people, a lot of Hispanic people about this. They don’t object to the notion that we need to be tougher in our enforcement of immigration law. <...>

The Obama administration is full of people who are at best reluctant to actually enforce the laws on the book – using the excuse that we can’t enforce anything until we have comprehensive immigration reform.

Quite the contrary, Obama certainly hasn’t been opposed to letting federal immigration agents do their jobs. In April 2009, Obama indicated that the government has to prove it’s “competent in getting results around immigration” in terms of enforcing the laws that are already in place, before the American people can have “confidence that if we actually put a package together we can execute.” Under the Obama administration’s leadership, Morton has been deporting more undocumented immigrants than the Bush administration. Each year, under President Bush, the number of deportations more than tripled. Much to the dismay of immigration advocates who thought that Morton was only going to go after the “worst of the worst,” the Obama administration has maintained this upward trend. During fiscal year 2009, 100,000 more immigrants were deported than during the last full fiscal year of the Bush presidency:

Not only are deportation much higher, border patrol agents have doubled, illegal crossings are down by 50%, and the auditing of employers (rather than workplace raids that go after the workers rather than the employers) is going full speed ahead. All big changes from the Bush days.

5. Yet he keeps trying to make friends
Bill Maher put it best: "Barry, they're just not that into you."

We have indisputably shown over and over that the right will hate a Democrat REGARDLESS of what he/she does. Offering olive branches is not just futile, it's a sign of weakness to the assholes of primitiveness and anti-pluralism.

Clinton did the same thing, and they gave him no peace; the net result was pulling the party and the whole country to the right and STILL being attacked at every turn.

It's just silly. After being fooled a whole bunch of times, the shame should be squarely on him.

It's sickening to hear over and over again what rotters the reactionaries are. They are. Big news. No offense meant against you personally, but THEY'VE shown their true colors, so expecting them to be anything else is either selfish victimhood or naivety.

We frittered away a golden opportunity to reverse our economic down slide because our President was loathe to do ANYTHING that wasn't "done through the public sector" and wasn't laden with tax cuts instead of straight-out governmental intervention. Health Care was the same version of a wreck. Sure, some good came out of it, but I simply don't buy that we couldn't have gotten much, much more.

8. That really illustrates
That is somebody wants to be here, they'll be here.

This guy would have to be jailed at home or he'll just be back.

3. It does not matter what the Obama administration does
in the eyes and hearts of of the anti-Obama crowd, it would not matter if Obama succeeded in the War on Terror, the Economic Recovery, or any of the other messes these yahoos would claim that Obama is soft of terrorist, or reluctant to enforce what ever or some such bs.

They are the ones that want the USA and Obama to fail. They have said so and continue to say so.

4. I hate to say it but Obama's problem is lack of communication.
The orator cannot communicate. Sh---sh I support him.

But they had best get a grip on Messaging in that WH.

I am a political junkie. I had no idea of these Deportations.

Carville taught us one thing. You almost need to run a war
room while governing --not just during the campaign.

Here in my analyis of what is happening. Obama is not a
show horse. He is quiet cool and effective but works
well in the background. This admirable and shows he is
grounded with his eye on the ball.

The problem is in politics the people have to know this.
They have to know each and every little or big accomplishment.

This means Obama has to change himself and get out there and
toot his own horn.

He needs to jerk a knot in his cabinet secretaries--They should
be communicating with Media things going on in their Depts.
Things being accomplished.

Right now you would think some on DU and the Media expect Obama
to don a Deep Divers suit and personally hit the water and
plug that darn hole himself. I am exaggerating of course.

Here is what he had best do. I am sure he and his appropriate
Dept's get reports and do things everyday re BP.
Why did they give the opposition and some Duers the opening
to charge he is doing nothing.

Mr. President, Get Engaged. You have the Bully Pulpit. Use
it to your advantage. You must be more of a show horse.
I mean this with all respect.

The Senate and House should get people out everytime you can
supporting the President and promoting the things you are doing.

If it were not for DU I would have a horrible opinion of this
administration. Our members srabble around and keep us informed.
This means we may know things but millions of Americans do not.

Have some Press Conferences so the Media do not have the opportunity
to give their opinion of what is going on. You tell us.

I want the Dems to succeed but they must get a move on.

7. During fiscal year 2009, 100,000 more immigrants were deported than during the last full fiscal year
of the Bush presidency.

These aren't leaving on their own accord. Others are.
