Let's hope people remember next Monday is a somber not festive holiday

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 31 in 2010). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. women and men who died while in the military service.

4. Memorial Day when I was a kid was always sort of odd...
Mom would buy us our first new pair of white patent leather shoes of the summer season, and more often than not, a white dress.

We would get dressed up and walk downtown to see the parade, then walk back home and that was it.

Dad was in the army during WWII, stationed in France and Belgium. He never came with us. Guess there were things he just didn't want to remember ever again.
