"Top Kill" Attempt is Acknowledging Defeat of Offshore Drilling |
|
Until this attempt, BP has made efforts that would not necessarily preserve oil at the risk of losing oil, but to preserve offshore drilling.
The previous tactics, if successful, would have proven that we have the ability to drill and operate deep sea rigs even in the event of an accident. Top Kill kills that possibility. Even if the long shot works, it is an admission that deep ocean rigs are not a viable source of energy. It kills offshore drilling, economically and politically. No safe guards or regulations can be enough to guarantee no accidents.
And when the inevitable accident comes, no one has the ability to respond to it. Not the corporations, not the government, no one. Top Kill should be called "Drill Kill". It's over.

1. That would be the logical conclusion... |
|
I don't see much logic having been used to date with regard to offshore drilling.

3. The relief well should be drilled contemporaneously with the |
|
main well and carried to a short "can't miss" distance before the main well is completed. All necessary equipment should be nearby in the event of a blowout-and we need to recognize that we have to have alternative sources of energy. This is a lesson people my age should have learned when we watched "Our Mr. Sun" in grade school.
