It seems to be a myth around here that if Republicans were to successfully filibuster the defense appropriations bill because of the inclusion of repealing DADT, that would be okay because it means that our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan would have to come home, due to not having money to pay for the war. Of course, here's the problem - we can't just teleport our troops and equipment out of there. It costs money, and a lot of it. In Iraq alone, withdrawal itself will cost tens of billions of dollars.
http://www.armytimes.com/news/2009/08/army_drawdown_082409w/ A successful filibuster of the defense appropriations bill would accomplish two things: keeping DADT in place and stranding our troops where they are without being able to pay for them or for any supplies. Even politically, it won't fly to say that Republicans are the ones doing it because they can just say "we guarantee we'll vote for it if you just remove the DADT rider."
It's not an option, people. Nothing good will come of this.
