OK, DUers, you be the judge: |
|
Today, a semi-elderly very active Teabagger came to see me for a routine appointment. I am very courteous to this man because he has always been very courteous to me, and I don't 'punish' people for their political outlook, no matter how extreme it may be. He is ex-military of reasonably high rank and he said to me,
"I am going to spend my remaining time on this Earth to eliminate this Government as it stands today."
That's a direct quote...
Now...what does this mean? What could this mean? Enquiring minds want to know.

He'll be spending a lot of time in an RV, traveling to Teabagger rallies. So what.

18. My dad used to be just like that... |
|
And he made those "thinking things through" noises a couple of years ago. We had a huge argument about Fahrenheit 911... he even had the list of "52 errors" and was quite smug. I calmly walked him through the list, and gave him the tools to debunk... he was quiet for a while.
Then came this past presidential primary... he sat there grinning like the cat that just swallowed the canary. His girlfriend had a sort of dreamy smile on her face... she said, your dad just surprised and delighted the hell out of me. Seems they went to the polling place, and instead of going to the Republican list, he started out in that direction, then swerved back to stand in line behind his girlfriend. He had already changed... he had secretly registered as a Democrat after over 50 years of voting Republican, and cast his vote for Obama.
That story still brings tears to my eyes:)
The point is, never give up. Lead by example (which sounds exactly like what you're doing) and don't be surprised...
The cherry on top: He's a HUGE fan of Rachel Maddow! I love it!

generally I don't get involved with extremists...nothing to be gained and lots to be lost here. Plus which, it's their dime...if they want to vomit this stuff forth, it won't work on me, so "be my guest".

23. I propose neither keeping the government we have today nor eliminating it. |
|
Let's modify it to suit our needs. Duh. Government as it stands doesn't work that well. Eliminating it would be worse. There is no easy way out: we need to do the hard work of fixing our government. And it's a process; we will never be done.
