SANTA ROSA BEACH – A homeowner called lawmen after he found a cache of weapons and pills under his bed.

The elderly man was packing for a trip Monday night at his home on Bayou Lane when he pulled a suitcase from under his bed and found the items, according to a press release from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. He and his son called law enforcement and placed the weapons and pills in the bathtub in the master bathroom.

Lawmen found boxes and bags containing two hand grenades, two Streetsweeper shotguns and roughly one thousand pills, the release said.

The rotary magazine-style semiautomatic shotguns are classified as “destructive devices” by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The style of shotgun was originally designed in the 1980s for riot control and used in South Africa.

1. Holy Crap! This story made me look under my bed!
No shotguns, no grenades.

But, a whole pack of dust bunnies, waiting for the slightest breeze to bring them charging out of hiding.

:hi:

5. A friend of mine noticed someone's been gradually stashing power tools under his front step
Mostly drills and stuff, sealed in plastic bags.

I think passing this story along to him will make him feel slightly less uneasy about things.

7. Does the son live with the father?
If so, I'd start by questioning him about any acquaintances of his who have visited him.
