I have noticed there seems to be more interest in bashing Al and Jesse over this Obama/Limbaugh controversy than actually doing something about this. When DUers invest more time criticizing those on their own side instead of taking action themselves its pretty discouraging. For some reason many DUers feel they have no power to act without others taking the initiative. Folks its up to us to rise up. Let's not blame everything on Al and Jesse.

1. I certainly wouldn't judge DUers and actions taken
based on one flame-bait thread (the bashing thread to which you linked.)

2. What the bashers forget is the basketball team were not 'celebrity' or political figures.
As for rap I agree and they are going out to get the white executives who push for that type of music to be made to make $$$$$$$$.

3. The Sceptre Of Being A Public Figure
While it's obvious that Rushbo is racist and this "ditty" ranks among some of the worst crap I've heard since "race music", there's a slippery slope here that gives Rushbo an out. As you mention, the Rutgers Woman's team are private citizens, Sharpton & Jackson are not. The best criticism of Imus I heard was his biggest sin was to "shoot down, not up".

The damn thing is Rushbo has been outted as a racist in the past with the Donovan McNabb situation and skated through. I don't see how this latest antic...other than generating PR for the gasbag...will hasten the day he's off the air. Hopefully a healthy amount of cholesterol clogging his abused body will do the trick for us...or one too many of those little blue pills he needs to make the day go a little "slower".

The rap strawman is an issue you properly point out that is exploited by mostly rich white execs either to make money or deflect attention from their own racism so we stop looking at them so they can get back to making their money. As a black programmer recently told me..."if you want the gangsta outta rap, get rid of the conditions that make these songs too real".

4. Meanwhile, in other DU posts, some of us have asked for and received
Edited on Tue May-08-07 07:17 AM by AndyA
a list of Limpball advertisers.

Some of us have written those advertisers telling them we will not do business with them or buy their products because they support Rush with their advertising dollars.

Barnes and Noble is one of them.

And yesterday, I ordered a book from Borders. Then I sent B&N an E-mail telling them I am supporting their competition, and why.

Some DUers are trying to make a difference.

Why should we expect someone else to take the lead? Even if they did, they'd still need others to cooperate. The train has left the station, and some of us are already trying to get the point across to those who enable Rush to spew his vile filth on the air.

5. "DUers would rather bash Al and Jesse", what an outrageous claim
Outrageous.

One flamebait thread in which I notice most people are defending Jackson and Sharpton and you paint "DUers" as bashers.
