Obamas in Chicago: Hoops and the House
Obamas in Chicago: Hoops and the House
By JACKIE CALMES

CHICAGO – President Obama told sportscaster Marv Albert earlier this week that he likes to play basketball because, “It takes an edge off things.” On Saturday he had to be feeling edgy about reports that the latest attempts to stop the gulf oil leak are going badly. And he headed for the hoops.

On his first full day back home here with his family to enjoy a gorgeous Memorial Day weekend, and a day after he had visited Louisiana’s coast for first-hand briefings about the environmental disaster unfolding in the gulf, Mr. Obama was out the door early and whisked minutes away by motorcade to the University of Chicago’s Lab School, where he has played pickup games in the past.

It was more than two hours before he and his personal assistant, Reggie Love, who had played forward at Duke, reemerged in sweats, the president in his Chicago White Sox cap. Several other unidentified men left as well, more bedraggled than the jaunty commander-in-chief, who smiled and waved to the cluster of reporters and camera operators kept at a safe distance.

1. He needs some diversity time. He's had to deal with so many
insane thing happening at the same time, nobody can deal with all of it without getting mentally & emotionally worn out! Think about it. Afghanistan, Iraq, North Korea, the Gulf mexx, Stupid Pubbies & the Sestak thing, the Arizona law & what to do with immigration laws, DADT, and probably many other things I've forgotten.

I'm glad he went back to Chicago to try to relax and forget Washington for a few days.

2. He certainly deserves a break! He is very smart. . .he knows that if
he doesn't take care of himself. . .if he doesn't lower his stress level, he will not be able to function as well under all the pressure!

Good for him! I hope he and his family enjoy every minute of this break. . .I know that, even then, the Gulf Coast disaster won't be far from his mind!

3. I wonder if there are days...
I wonder if there are days when Hillary Clinton smiles and thinks..."Whew, that was close."

4. I wish he had switched his vacation spot to the Gulf
and gone out once or twice to rake the contaminated sand with the kids. It would have shut most critics right up and set a great example in civic responsibility. The impact would have been huge.

5. And The Oil Keeps On Flowing...
Symbolism does little when the disaster is unfolding. It's been over a year since he was last at his real home...compared to booosh who was taking a vacation to his chicken ranch every other week. Be assured if he was walking on the beach, you'd hear the corporate media bitch that he was inept cause he didn't make the oil stop. You can't win.

Those who want to view him as doing nothing or worse will continue to do so. I've had enough of symbolism.
