Fight in the White House? Is Cheney going to the middle east to undo what Rice has said and did?
Edited on Tue May-08-07 08:16 AM by ck4829
Some Mideast experts outside the administration suggested that Cheney's visit might be an attempt to try to clear up what might be viewed as mixed messages from Rice by some leaders in the region.

"Some of these people wonder if Condi Rice really speaks for the president when she decides she's going to talk to the Syrians, or when she agrees to go to a conference that includes the Iranians," said David Mack, a retired diplomat who was deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs and a consultant to the bipartisan Iraq Study group.

"They wonder if the president is going to pull out the rug from under her. The vice president, who is generally identified as having opposed a lot of the things that we've been increasingly doing, can assure them that she speaks for the president as well," said Mack, now vice president of the Middle East Institute, a group devoted to fostering knowledge of the region.

Rice was in the neighborhood attending an international conference on Iraq in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt, attended by representatives of both Syria and Iran. She met on the sidelines for 30 minutes with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem, but had no face-to-face contact with the Iranian foreign secretary.

1. Rice wants to salvage her own legacy and reputation before this
administration is condemned by future generations. She's afraid historians will look back and wonder why no diplomatic efforts were made in the region despite our clear need for help in stabilizing Iraq.

3. She's too late
like the rest of the weasels in this administration she is complicit in every misstep and screw up. I hope her legacy follows her for the rest of her life and keeps her up at night.

2. Interesting.
I think Condi Rice is a terrible human being. But Cheney is worse.

6. Cheney probably told them "Pay no attention to the Shoeshopper, I run things"
Condi is such a loyal Bush lover, she is probably incapable of seeing that Bush and Cheney have no intention of allowing her to conduct diplomacy with any countries they intent to attack.

7. Rice has a dictatorial personality...and whatever she told them
was probably closer to what Cheney will tell them than her acting "diplomatically." Cheney is probably going there to reinforce what she said...or deliver harsher threats.

8. I read something in Newsweek to the contrary, in a story about
Robert Gates. Apparently Gates and Condi are going their own way and are attempting to bypass Cheney--he's being marginalized.

9. Both Cheney and Rice are awful people
but the fact that a man has to go and rubberstamp as true what a woman has been telling them just annoys the hell out of me. This is 2007, right?
