Stop Beating Up Republicans Over Their Worshiping of Reagan
Yeah, Reagan was horrible, but what other Republican president can they refer to? Nixon? Ford? Bush I? Bush II? Eisenhower? Okay, maybe Ike, but that's a huge stretch.

Unlike the Dems who can refer back to Roosevelt (brought nation out of Great Depression and lead it thru WWII), or Truman (re-built Europe and integrated armed services), or Kennedy (currently, the most admired president and inspiration to an entire generation), or Johnson (signed Civil Rights laws), or Carter (internationally well-respected, potential Nobel prize winner) or Clinton (greatest peace time economic expansion in history).

So, let them have their mythical Reagan.

3. I don't begrudge the freepers their choice to worship at the reagan altar...
I do object to the MSM deification of him as universally loved and respected. He was a doddering old fart suffering from alzheimers. We were worse off when he left than when he went in. I, as with many, did not get any "feel good" vibe from him, though the MSM continues to press that myth.

4. Exactly
We're not "beating up" Republics, we're railing at the Corporate Media/Propaganda Machine.

5. You can thank the electoral vote for that.
With him winning a bulk of the electoral votes, it gave the impression of the "universally loved" myth. But Mondale still won 40% of the popular vote. That doesn't say universally to me.

But as we saw in 2000. The popular vote doesn't make much of a difference, does it?

11. When I was a kid, that was MY airport, too
And I agree!! NObody who grew up there calls it anything
but "National Airport" even today. And so shall it ever
be in my mind--naming an airport after the guy who fired
all the air traffic controllers--that's like naming a
peace research institute after Bush Lite: perverse seems
like too tame a term.

17. Better than a quarter century ago I bought some of them
Before my naive 21 year old uneducated head knew what was really going on. I still always don't know what's going on but it's a lot easier to know when someone is probably lying.

I just look for the (R) in front of their name

10. nope
You let them have their delusions and they'll create their own reality. The only way to deal with such people is to smash their false notions into the ground, rub their noses in it like a wayward puppy, and keep a watchful eye on them to do it again the next time they get such a foolish notion. These people drink their own kool-aid and believe it. When they keep to themselves, it's their problem. When they start acting on it, it becomes our problem.

13. The Republicans absolutely have a 20th century Republican idol
His name was Teddy Roosevelt.

He was for conservation, caution in involvement in foreign affairs,
and is quoted as saying that criticism of the president is legitimate
and even healthy, and that it was treasonous to suggest that there
shouldn't be any.

No wonder he was such a great Republican president. Today, he would
be a Democrat!

They just don't have any good idols to look up to. Of course, you have to admit, that doesn't stop them from looking up to the idols they do have, bad as they are.

He was a 'B' grade actor and he was a 'B' grade President. His tenure in office was all show biz. Most high level decisions were made by Nancy's astrologer.

23. Scariest delusion is the concept of the "Reagan Revolution"

They think of it as a movement with a life unto itself, unrestricted by the death of its namesake. Reagan and the Bushes were just pauses in the more natural Progressive movement that seeks to improve the lives of the most people. Conservatives need time to catch up and come to terms with change but they mistake such pauses for actual course reversals.

Ray-gun was a braindead fuqtard and the very fact that this nation is stupid enough to treat him like a hero goes a long way toward killing any hope I may have for change.

25. They thought Bush was Reaganesque, too
And they were right. Bush has out-Reaganed Ronnie. Even richer rich. Even poorer poor. Even more subversive activities and degrading of personal freedom. Even more key officials who can't recall what they knew, said or did.

No more Reaganesque monsters. No more Reagan worship.
