Fidel Castro claims Obama lives in fantasy world

HAVANA (AP) -- Fidel Castro speculated Wednesday that a nuclear strike on Iran might help President Barack Obama win a second term in the White House and also suggested the United States could attack North Korea.

The former leader of Cuba, who has not been seen in public for nearly four years, also portrayed the U.S. president as a victim of fantasies planted in his mind by sinister advisers.

The column published by Cuban state media floated the idea that a nuclear attack on Iran - perhaps even without U.S. authorization - might help Obama win re-election in 2012.

"Could Obama enjoy the emotions of a second presidential election without having the Pentagon or the State of Israel, whose conduct does not in the least obey the decisions of the United States, use nuclear weapons against Iran?" he asked. "How would life on our planet be after that?"

It's a question he did not answer, nor did he elaborate.

1. Most Americans live in a fantasy world...........
It is, I am convinced, the result of brainwashing by the TV and media in general.

American history is not taught as it is.

2. He should know
Thirty years of being subsidized by the Soviet Union will sure help you stay in power. Gave him plenty of time to consolidate power.

3. What an idiot
Right after a landmark nonproliferation, non-nuclear aggression treaty he claims we're going to nuke Iran. And this nut thinks Obama's living in a fantasy world? Please.

4. Fidel Castro Should Know About Living In a Fantasy World
Fidel Castro should know about living in a fantasy world. For over 50 years, he's been living in the delusion that a centralized state-socialist economic system riddled through with waste and inefficiencies can produce a globally-competitive economic system and a prosperous society for his people. That despite the growth of a multi-polar economic world since 1980 where the US is no longer the chief Goliath, Cuba has become one of the poorest countries in the Caribbean has somehow failed to escape his notice.

I don't doubt that there are idiots trying to get the US to launch a surprise nuclear attack on Iran. Most of them seem to think that the Iranians have obliging provided the locations where they may be fashioning nuclear weapons and that the Iranians have placed their sites where US conventional or nuclear weapons could obliterate them with 100 percent certainty. Most of these birds are either affiliates of Israel's right-wing Likud block or their willing patsies.

:argh:

5. He has been able to remain in power despite generations of effort
by US presidents to oust him. Up until old age forced him to step down. To me that points to a large degree of mental health. Castro may be a lot of things, but disconnected from reality is likely not one of them.

6. Political Power Is One Thing, Economic Competence Is Another
Political power is one thing, economic competence is another. I don't doubt that Fidel Castro has proven himself to be one of the shrewdest political minds Cuba has produced since 1950 (And G*d knows that most of the exiles in south Florida and elsewhere haven't even come close to matching his political brilliance).

However, checking his state socialist economic theories against the realities of increasing Cuban impoverishment, a crumbling legacy infrastructure, and neighboring countries rising net prosperity doesn't seem to be one of his strong points.

As I grow older and crankier, I've come to believe that one of the jobs of a political leader is not just to provide economic self-determination (At least as well as anyone can these days), but to increase general prosperity. Fidel Castro has certainly failed in the latter endeavor, and I strongly believe that his economic delusions have most to do with it.

------------

To be fair, I'd talk at length about Buckaroo Bush's economic delusions, but I have a busy morning ahead of me.
