MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. - Six men described by federal prosecutors as "Islamic militants" were arrested on charges they plotted to attack the Fort Dix Army base and "kill as many soldiers as possible," authorities said Tuesday.
The six were scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Camden later Tuesday to face charges of conspiracy to kill U.S. servicemen, said Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey.
Officials said four of the men were born in the former Yugoslavia, one in Jordan and one in Turkey. Five of them lived in Cherry Hill, 10 miles east of Philadelphia and 20 miles southwest of Fort Dix, Drewniak said.
"They were planning an attack on Fort Dix in which they would kill as many soldiers as possible," Drewniak said. :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

3. This is another case where the 'informant' who infiltrated the group |
|
becomes the ringleader and suggests all these terrorist activities, then turns them in when they agree. Like that crazy homeless dude in the last couple of years who just wanted some boots or something, and the fbi guy is all 'hey, if you join al qaeda they'd give you boots and weapons' and he's like "boots? ok, sure"
WASTE OF TIME NON-STORY

6. "as many soldiers as possible" could be ZERO. |
|
A militant (Islamic or otherwise) is not necessarily a trained commando, or even a good foot-soldier.
The crime theses six are accused of is conspiracy, which means the U.S. attorney thinks he has enough evidence to prove an agreement existed and somebody took an affirmative step in furtherance of that agreement (e.g. buying supplies).
We have no idea how serious of a threat these guys really were, given this info.
