19. Don't be a hater. Pit bulls are the most loving dogs, best breed out there.
Edited on Thu Jun-03-10 10:17 PM by cui bono
It's the owners.

Not to mention the fact that there was no evidence presented that the dogs were pit bulls. It's extremely common for dog attacks to erroneously be called pit bull attacks in order to sensationalize the story.

Fail: there are bad dogs (in every breed) and combine that with a bad owner
and you get the problems.

Some breeds are just more likely to be problems.

People need to get over the 'NO BAD DOGS' BS.

And yes sometimes even good owners end up with bad dogs. It happened to me when as a child I was nearly torn apart by a pitbull. The owner was conscientious, worked and trained with animals, and kept everything as it should be. It didn't stop a kill attempt by one of his dogs.

20. I hate to hear people say they hate dogs or they hate cats
Edited on Fri Jun-04-10 02:18 AM by Duppers
Most dogs and most cats are good animals.

People who hate cats or who hate dogs are either ignorant of or insensitive to the species' nature.

23. +1. If a person hates either then they've never taken the time to get to know them
Every dog and cat has it's own unique personality, just as we do. One can't paint them all with the same brush. There are those who are as loving and devoted as one can imagine, there are some who are guarded or perpetually frightened due to abuse or illness, but overall most are very good natured.

9. I'd give my kitties tuna every day if they did that! Now they only get the good
stuff for special occasions. Only one of my kitties would like the cheeseburger. :) What's interesting is that there are cans of cat food that cost more than canned tuna on sale!

I do have one kitty that when a person that she doesn't like comes into the house, she'll stand next to me and growl like a watch dog.

8. I assume the dog owner produced the AKC or UKC papers as proof of the breed?
Otherwise the headline is misleading.

13. I feel you... a friend's boxer/blue heeler mix ....
... was reported to the city as being a pit bull. Since they didn't have papers on her, they couldn't prove she wasn't, and so my friend had to surrender the very sweet dog or face a huge fine. But as for the dogs in this case, I don't care what breed they were, they attacked a human. They are where they belong.

I do have to say the picture in my head of two vicious dogs who caused so much injury to that woman being scared of a little calico cat... I ROFLed.

12. I once had an old orange tabby cat(he came with this house) who could really handle himself
Edited on Thu Jun-03-10 05:27 PM by NNN0LHI
I was out in the back yard with my two medium sized dogs many years ago when two strange large dogs came into the yard and began threatening my two dogs. That cat went out there and had those two large dogs running for the hills with their tails between their legs after a few good hard swats. Then he was still so mad he came back to where my dogs were at(who he liked) and gave each of them a swat for good measure.

He was puffed up twice his normal size and was generally an ornery old fellow. He would swat my ankle when I would walk by him and he hit hard.

22. Good kitty!
I had a former feral cat who threw himself between me and a big growling male raccoon once. I'd never seen this particular raccoon before and had never been growled at by one, so the confrontation in my driveway was a surprise. Jasper came running and drove him away though. The same kitty once wouldn't let me pull out of the driveway on afternoon. When I got out of the car to move him he ran to my front door and meowed loudly. I had accidentally left the house key in the door. That old three legged kitty was some kind of guardian angel!

24.  Dog bites man—4.7 million times a year
http://blogs.consumerreports.org/safety/2010/06/dog-bite-prevention.html

"...

Postal workers are victims of only some of the more than 4.7 million dog bites annually. Each year 800,000 Americans seek medical attention for dog bites; half of them children. Of those injured, 386,000 require treatment in an emergency department and about 16 die, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Children 5 to 9 years old are the most vulnerable.

..."

If this were a disease, we'd likely jump all over this health problem.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
