BP is now spending millions on PR ads!!!
Good god, now BP is spending millions during prime time for PR ads when that money could be used to pay people to clean up their mess. It looks like the corporation that donated $100,000 to a charity and then spent $5-$10,000,000 in ads telling peope how generous they were. If it's corporate PR it's a lie...

16. How many people could have been hired to clean up their mess with 50 million???
It's disgusting. Obama needs to put out an arrest warrant for every BP executive and certainly arrest Tony Haywad. If I spilled a gallon of oil in the sewer in the front of my house I would get fined and maybe even arrested. I'd be attacked by every government agency, so why hasn't Obama gone all in using every government agency to go after the BP sociopaths???

22. Right, if it's corporate, it's spin...
That's all they do. Truth, responsibility and accountability mean absolutely nothing to corporations. Look at little Tony run. He is incapable of accepting blame or being responsible. I believe to become a CEO of a major corporation you have to almost be a sociopath. Haywad sounds and acts like he is a full fledged sociopath...

5. It's insane!
I am watching Anderson Copper right now, and the idea that BP is paying millions in ads, millions more to lobbyists all to try and make their image better is simply insane! Use that damned money to pay fishermen and anyone else who has lost their income due to their mess! On Rachel it was pointed out they need more people to keep the booms working properly, why aren't they training people to do these jobs, give them the proper respirators and safety equipment they need and let them help!

This whole public image campaign is "INSANE", stop the stupidity and put the money where it will do the most good, and that's not in the pockets of lobbyists, or paying for ads trying to make them look good, which I am sure is NOT going to work!

8. No offense to most of those here, but in general, yes
Most Americans are poorly informed and sometimes willfully ignorant. I don't have a wide social network but I'd say that 60% of the people I deal with here in W.PA have no clue about what goes on in the world and who pushes the buttons. Most of them just view the local news as background noise and might absorb half of what they hear. They don't search out independent (aka non-commercial) information sources to stay informed. I don't fault them for the lack of interest or research. When you have a life and limits on your free time, searching out real news isn't a high priority.

My view is that Americans aren't stupid they are just too busy or too propagandized to realize what they are not being told.

7. They don't expect to change our minds about them,
BP is simply buying its way out of negative coverage in as much media as they can.

Imagine the phone ringing in the NY Times . .
BP exec: " I see you're planning to run a story about the oil spill killing animals and people"
Times employee: " Yes, that's right"
BP exec: "Well, ok, but I think we'll reconsider that $10 million worth of full-page PR ads we were planning to run."
Times employee: "Uh, we can probably shelve that story for now."
BP exec: "Thanks! The check is in the mail!"

21. Could their priorities be any clearer?

They don't give a flip about the Gulf, it's people or wildlife, just their bottom line.

Expropriate without compensation.
