CEO of one of Israel's top investment banks jumps out of 17th floor window. (dies)
Leader Capital Markets CEO commits suicide:
The chief executive of Leader Capital Markets, one of Israel's top investment banks, has committed suicide, a company spokeswoman said on Sunday.

Danny Barak, 48, jumped from his office on the 17th floor of one of Tel Aviv's most prominent office towers on Friday, the spokeswoman said.

Barak, who is survived by his wife and four children, did not leave a note explaining his suicide.

"It is a mystery," the spokeswoman said.

"Attention, class! The nice lady said it was 'a mystery' why the investment banker jumped out his window. Class, does anyone have an idea why an investment banker might jump out a window?"

5. I never trust stories that conclude it was suicide before all the facts are even known
And there is such a thing as "Rommel's Choice" (ask James Hatfield - oh wait, he was sucided after being given "Rommel's choice")

8. No kidding.
Unless there were unembedded eye-witnesses the rush to assumption itself is suspect.

7. he has 4 kids?
i have 5. i can tell ya, i have stared at that ledge.

ok, that was snarky. seriously, people usually commit suicide because they suffer from the mental illness of depression.

9. I agree they suffer depression, but not all depressions are mental illness, much of
them are based in reality and not at all "clinical." For example depression after losing a loved one isn't a mental illness.

11. you are failing to make the distinction between sadness and depression
for all the similarities, they are most emphatically not the same thing.

12. No, you are failing to recognize the difference between depression and "clinical depression".
That's all.

13. i said the mental illness of depression
not trying to be a jerk. just trying to keep the facts straight about an issue where the facts might save a life.

14. or they are murdered
or forced into it somehow.

Or they are damaged by something.

But we can't assume ANYTHING other than that the man is dead.

Just cause the company said it was suicide means NOTHING. Nor does the fact that the authorities say it. In Tel Aviv, people get offed in pretty dark circumstances. And high windows or pateos are easy pcikins to make it look like suicide.

But I'd venture to say that many suicides are due to our culture AND t the assault on our physical and emotional states by our fucked up environmment. Unfortunately, i expect it to get worse.

But THIS I think, may be NOT suicide.

15. Time to investigate his accounts
Sure, he may have been despondent about a family matter, but when an investment banker offs himself, it's time to shut everything down and find out what's going on.
