Mainstream artists always have tons of fans whose personal beliefs they don't like. Just as many fans who don't like an artists' politics continue to support them because they like what they do. My guess is Elton's main concern is the check clearing :)

however, he's a professional entertainer. he got paid a million bucks for a couple hours work, and part of the deal surely included making nice with the guests. You'd think even if he liked Elton's songs, that his "concerns" about gayness would prevent him letting Elton "influence" his guests. Elton gets the $$, but it's interesting that Rush likes his music enough to pay him a million to sing rather than pick someone to sing who fits more in with Rush's world view. IOW, Rush does not really believe his own crap. I wonder what dittoheads have to say about this.
