Imagine it is 2110 . . . . . . you're a history teacher . . . . . |
|
. . . . . what will you be teaching about the last half of the 20th Century and the first half of the 21st?

But maybe something like: that was when there were still animals in the wild, we could breathe air right out in the open, and there were not only over a million humans on earth, but BILLIONS.

I think I would title it or introduce it as the 'Age of illusions'
A time where everything collapsed and no one noticed until it was too late.
There would be the Canaries: Zinn, Chomsky, and Postman I think.
I fear that the age would end with the ascension of some kind of right wing fundamentalist government that would only be made possible by a collapse that people were blind to and insulated from. The people would not understand the direct financial forces at work in destroying them; a false consciousness that allowed people to believe that hobgoblins they called liberals were responsible for all their ills.
Hopeful the fundamentalist government would then collapse as well.

Of course it isn't like there will be many detailed historical records for the 100 or so years of anarchy and near continual violence for scarce resources after that.

19. Dang. I thought I had some old teachers in school! Although 147 for a history teacher isn't bad. |
|
It is at least on par with some of the ones I had.
