BP is a victim?????
Edited on Fri Jun-11-10 05:51 AM by Are_grits_groceries
Anybody who seriously tries to push that meme to help them avoid paying restitution and other items will be in major trouble. Anybody who tries to dither with BP because of their dividend threat that KO explained will rue the day they did.

Sam Adams will walk the Earth again.

Boner, Rand Paul and the CoC did, and that should be hung around their necks.

I am sorry about people who have money tied up somehow with BP. However, if they had listened to half the shite Tony Hayward had said and seen what was and was not done, they would spare some change to use throw him in the Thames or lock him in the Tower of London. FOREVER.

Cromwell is not a favorite of mine. However, he had it just about right here:

Dissolution of the Long Parliament by Oliver Cromwell given to the House of Commons, 20 April 1653

It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money.

Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter'd your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?

Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil'd this sacred place, and turn'd the Lord's temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress'd, are yourselves gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors.

In the name of God, go!

A lot of people should hear an echo of that.

2. If BP is a victim it is only of their own greed.
They by-passed safety procedures to save money. And what we have in the Gulf is the result.

It would be one thing if BP had a good safety record, but they don't. They are the worst when it comes to following safety procedures, and they have been fined over and over and over again for it. Apparently, it's cheaper to skip safety and pay for the dead employees and other damage later.

BP is a bad company.

3. Those who will lose their retirement because of loss of BP stocks are victims

4. True.
However, it is the fault of the leaders of BP who are pompous, lying, corporate terrorists. The results of that are seen in the Gulf even if the first isn't.

If the shoe was on the other foot, they would shite scones if we tried to blackmail their government like Hayward did. They are not shy, retiring people who withhold their criticism.

These are some of the people who were apoplectic because Michelle Obama touched the Queen.

5. Nobody should lose their retirement because
of BP stocks. Ture, they might lose a portion of it. But if they lose their retirement it is because they didn't diversify their investments - and that is their own fault. Same is true if they lose a significant portion of that retirement fund. Appropriate diversification does not concentrate funds in any single stock or industry.

Most 401k plans permit a choice of investments. Retirees usually are not required to be invested in company stock. What happened at Enron (requiring retirement funds to be held in company stock) is the exception not the rule.
