One small sentence that needs to be highlighted and publicized for its glorious, proud wrongness.
In fact, it gets to the point that context becomes unimportant. Merits on the safety of a sailing trip? Appropriate age for sailing alone? The role of the media? Feh. All that is irrelevant to me now.

The fact that THIS is said in earnest and accepted as a normal outlook on life is the real story.

"...our decisions are not based on our feelings or even on our own knowledge. We pray for our problems."

In how many ways is this wrong? :nuke:

1. Well, thankfully someone else's decisions ARE based on knowledge
And these dumbfucks still have a daughter because of that!

Holy hell, no wonder she's on a boat on the other side of the fucking world

2. Oh Lord!!
"We need more problems."

The semantic structure sucks, for starters.

(Forgive the 'Blazing Saddles' reference.)

6. If it's false, I'm waiting for the denial.
Me, I'd be pissed if some shoddy site put a mentally unstable person's words in my mouth. I'd quickly get out to guarantee the world I'm not a lunatic.

10. I am an ESOL tutor and you are absolutely right. This is a pretty bad translation.

The prepositions "On", "in" and "at" are part of my standard Beginning English grammar lesson. There is no way a native English speaker would say "lost on the sea." It would of course be "at sea." Prepositions are tough in any language IMO.

Also note incorrect verb tense and incorrect possessive pronouns "Abby...his..."

4. He's saying they've been programmed by externalities. Haven't we all?
It doesn't have to be "religious" programming, though that is the particular context of which he speaks.

12. This article is a joke. There are multiple factual errors in the article, including
Abby being identified first as a girl, then a boy, that she is trying to break Jessica Watson's record and that Laura Dekker is also missing. In an article full of so much misinformation and contradictions, it would be foolhardy to think that this one "quote" is even factual.

FWIW, I can't find it anywhere else except lifted from this ridiculous article.

:hi:

13. Yeah. This looks like a "news" article written in English by an ESOL student
Edited on Fri Jun-11-10 04:17 PM by Berry Cool
who not only isn't very good at English, but doesn't even understand the principle of avoiding redundancy in writing (it keeps repeating the information about Sunderland being lost), much less the "inverted pyramid" style of news writing.

The Web site on which it appears also looks like one from a non-English-speaking country, the kind on which amateurs are invited to "provide content" in return for very low pay. Not sure who wrote this English version of the story or why, but it's really, really bad, and I wouldn't lift any quote from it and use it as some sort of proof of how ridiculous Christianity is.

Edited to add: Here's the info on their "About" page--pretty pathetic:
