Is the morning RW meme still alive?
Edited on Fri Jun-11-10 05:35 PM by underpants
This morning going to work I am flipping around the stations- the local RW talk radio station AND the "Classic rock" station in Fredericksburg (VA) both have the same talking point:

Basically
Federal regulations require workers in the oil spill to only work 20 minutes of every hour
"20 minutes on 40 minutes off I mean WHO CAN DO THAT AT THEIR WORK????"

The callers on the Classic Rock station were the "I work my butt off...." type of thing (but have time to call in to a radio station like Hannity did back in the Ollie North days)

So I get to work and find out that the story is actually:

In the heat, federal safety guidelines allow crews to work only 20 minutes of every hour.

In the early evening Thursday, the temperature registered about 95 degrees, and conditions were humid. Add in the smell of the thick crude, and it makes for a pretty long day for cleanup crews and for anyone running out of patience.

The safety rules also apply on the water, where the heat index peaks around 110. Workers in haz-mat suits work 20 minutes on, 40 minutes off, so not much work gets done. In an eight hour shift, they only work roughly two and a half hours.

Workers in Hazmat suits CAN'T work much beyond that and be sustainable for the long haul. I laughed out loud and was wondering if the meme was still going.

1. Why aren't there three shifts?

If crews truly are only allowed to work 20 minutes in this crisis, then there needs to be 3 shifts. That way there is always someone working.

3. I'm new here, is the basis for a talking point or meme(word I hate) that the statement be
something Right wing or republicans use to sell their position/idea or just that it be incomplete and or ignorant of the whole truth? I know the two can coincide but obviously not all ignorant incomplete ideas or results of bad/lazy reporting are talking points, or that word I hate.

4. get the dj (s) out there to help for just one day
if they have any balls to dress in a hazmat suit and contribute instead of sitting in air conditioned comfort throwing tar balls at folks.

Of course they won't do such a thing. That's a gimmie.
