3. Nope, they're just considering it. It's "an option." I doubt they will ban them...n/t |

4. Highly doubtful FIFA can ban the vuvuzelas |
|
The article only says a ban is being "mulled."
The vuvuzelas are part of South Africans' culture.
The horns are blown at parties.
The World Cup is the world's biggest party.
It would be impossible for FIFA to expect that South Africans are going to leave the horns at home.
I was just watching the Ghana-Serbia match on Univision and the commentators, speaking of the vuvuzelas, said that Univision's acoustic engineers were looking to devise a way to lower or eliminate the buzzing sound during broadcasts.

5. The Singing and Chanting are an integral part of Football |
|
This sound is simply taking away from the emotion of the crowd. The players have no INSPIRATION from the crowd.

and would infinitely prefer the singing and the chanting.
But FIFA really messed up by not realizing that South Africans would take the horns to the stadiums. Too late now.
As for the Frenchies blaming the horns for losing sleep and not playing well ...

7. They really bothered my hard-of-hearing neighbor yesterday. |
|
We went out to lunch at a neighborhood bar & grill. The game was on about 12 sets, but the volume wasn't that loud. For his wife and me the horns were annoying background buzz, for him it interferred with his ability to hear anything else.
I guess I don't have strong feelings one way or the other about it. If it's a tradition, well, what the heck? So why did I post this? Just to point out my neighbor's difficulty -- and to let DU know I'm still here.

I just turned it off, partially because of all that noise!
