Congressman Blunt brought back the DC doublespeak at today’s hearing, but he can’t run from his record of shilling for Big Oil

Today, as five major Big Oil executives testified before a Congressional subcommittee, Congressman Blunt tried to use the opportunity to cover up his 14-year record of protecting big oil, but actions speak louder than words. See the latest examples of Blunt’s DC Doublespeak for yourself:

“We need to use this hearing to understand why our government and British Petroleum could have been so poorly prepared for this disaster.”

Congressman Blunt’s Record:

Blunt Twice Cosponsored Bill to Ease Requirements on Big Oil Drillers: Congressman Blunt also twice cosponsored a bill in 2006 and 2008 – the Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act—to exempt Big Oil from certain safety regulations.

Scandal Breaks at MMS – Blunt Brushes Off Concerns: In September 2008, the Interior Department inspector general reported that Minerals Management officials accepted gifts, steered contracts to favored clients and engaged in drug use and illicit sex with employees of energy firms. While some lawmakers called for an investigation and other accountability measures, Blunt brushed off their concerns: “You don’t penalize the American people by saying, ‘The traffic cop stopped working, so come take all the traffic lights down.’”
