No word that #2 is back to work yet (that I have heard).

It took 5 relief well attempts to stop Ixtoc. Seems the technology hasn't improved in 30 years given that the same attempts have been made (and failed).

93. I thought they said #2 was back on last week
When they realized they could not put a second BOP on top of the first.

They do have better technology for locating the well casing but it can take more than one try to actually hit it, though they can retry with the same relief well.

143. Agree - and why haven't American car companies done so? It was driving me
nuts that for the longest time they were talking about hybrids and I was thinking if Tesla Motors can make a kick ass electric car, why cant large car companies at a friendly price point?

So.... they seem to have kind of moved toward electric (Volt) - but in the meantime I read where there are 20,000 waiting for delivery of the first Nissan Leaf! Granted, it will be made in American (good thinking on their part) but why not Chevrolet? Ford? I WANT to buy American, but sometimes they make it so hard. They KNOW that's the future, but it's like they want to hang on to the combustion engines for as long as they possibly can.

Sorry, got off on a rant.

133. Dear friend, I didn't mean that to be aggressive. Please forgive my phrasing/accusatory tone
I am just SO frustrated that the US Gov't is so beholden to BP that they don't so much as speak against them.

At the VERY least - where is OSHA? Where are the Hazmat protections? Apparently we are too worried about tourism and stock price and willing to sacrifice safety on those altars.

I am sorry for taking my frustration out on you.

He is repeating talking points that are weeks old. I had hoped to hear a new direction tonight, not "Trust Thad Allen, Ken Salazar and BP" along with "keep on keeping on".

Their plan (operational AND informational) is obviously not working.

I want to hear that the US Government is taking over monitoring - of beaches, of the undersea. That we are using academia and other disconnected scientists to tell us the fucking truth as to what is happening down there, how much of it is happening, and what Corexit is (or is not) doing to make matters worse.

I got nothin.

115. What people don't realize about a green movement is that it will take oil to accomplish. We
don't have enough oil left. Think of a solar panel or wind turbine or battery. Now, think of all the complex oil-powered steps it takes to manufacture these things. Think of the raw minerals that have to be mined. Think of the materials that have to be manufactured, like steel for wind turbine towers. Now, think of all the parts and their wide-flung manufacturing facilities. All the trucks it takes to move all the parts to converge on an assembly plant. And it's way more complex than that.

What about other systems that will be affected like electrical construction and generation. Or medical supplies. It goes on and on.

Oil powers this planet. There is no replacement for it.

If that was actually what he meant then it would mean that (a) he was dumb enough to believe what he was saying or (b) he was disingenuous enough to try to influence the politics. Either way, I was
very disappointed.

that is not what I want to hear from the Pres...

<------- HAZMAT training, and I would volunteer ONLY if I was promised life time health care... as well as top notch HAZMAT L-II gear.

Now there are things I wanted to hear... that I sort of did, but not really.

I wanted to hear a 10 year project to MOVE AWAY from OIL.

I wanted to hear a full escrow of BP US... I get it why historically we will not nationalize them, even if I was willing to eat my hat and be wrong over that.

I wanted to hear a time line for the recovery.

I could go on

Impressed, NOT... Commission, stumission, that is not the answer for everything.
